I wonder how many people will exploit the NOOK until a more affordable tablet comes about. $250 vs...$650+ is just too obvious.

Ruk it was almost TOO easy. Took about 5 mins. It runs smooth as fuckk and i haven't even overclocked yet.

For 250 bucks you can't go wrong. This thing performs better than some $400 tabs i've tested.

Aron yeah that's the notif bar cos im still on the stock rom but rooted and with zeamLauncher... when
i flash a new rom it'll go back up top.... unless i flash honeycomb of course.

Specs are good.... same processor as droidX and droid2...
Will it run Honeycomb smoothly?

A friend of mine was looking at the Advent Vega as a stop gap, until the better tablets are released.

Edit - Just seen that there is already a dirty port of Honeycomb on the nook. If they can get a working honeycomb rom on the Vega when the code is released I think I'll pick that up instead. Keep it for a year, then pick the tablet I want then.

Ref Emulating, masta could have possibly been a bit clearer, but ill try and explain it a bit better.

Alot of people think the job of an emulator is to run a game. That is incorrect.

An emulator emulates the hardware of a computer, whether it be a desktop computer, laptop, phone, console, arcade and fruit machines, emulators are available to emulate the hardware inside these machines.

Because this hardware is emulated, it allows you to run media designed to be run on that hardware.

Unfortunately this process is extremely difficult. We are only now at a stage where you can play Playstation 2 games smoothly on a High End PC. Luckily, smartphone technology has advanced at a faster rate than computers do, with them all readying having a 1Ghz+ cpu, so we can emulate hardware like a Playstation on our smartphones, however still as you said, its not 100% smooth.

Pittsey tell me about the Advent Vega.

Id buy the Xoom or Samsung now to be honest, money isnt the issue, but I just think like the iPad this is the first generation of tablets and while I want in, Im gonna hold out on a big purchase until something truly amazing comes out ad I just dont think we're there yet.

The Atrix 4G on AT&T looks pretty cool. The laptop dock concept is a really cool idea, but the dock itself needs to be a lot cheaper. $150, tops.

So I just bought my first e-book. But because I have the Nook rooted, I was able to install Amazon's Kindle for Android app and buy the book from Amazon rather than Barnes & Noble. LOL! I wonder if B&N envisioned that would happen. Probably not.

Hmmm might get the ViewSonic G Tablet 10 inch... Anyone got any experience with it?
As long as you're comfortable rooting it and flashing a custom ROM.... I heard that the UI Viewsonic made is fucking horrendous and makes the device practically unusable. And they don't ship it with Android Market. It seem that you can flash a ROM built from the Vega, and there also seems to be some working being made to port CyanogenMod 7.

Saw the Dell Streak 7 yesterday in a T-Mobile store here in Portland. It's pretty cool. Seems way better than the Streak 5. The "Stage" widgets Dell have made are pretty cool too.

How long will you be in Portland? I'm going to a Balkan Beat Box show on the 25th of February at the Roseland Theater. We can get together and hit up one of Portland's famous whore houses :D

Pittsey tell me about the Advent Vega.
The Wiki for spec - Advent Vega - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Modoco who have got a lot of rom information, rooting information and a few people working to get Honeycomb ported when the source code is released - Advent Vega - Vega.MoDaCo.com - Android @ MoDaCo

I'm not sure if they are available any where else but the UK at the moment. But there are a lot of supply issues here too, and they are hard to get hold of. I may pick myself up as an interim tablet until I find something I really like as they are only £250.

I actually leave the morning after that lol. Bad timing. I would have been down for the Balkan Beat Box show as well. All good, I'll be here permanently in a matter of months and hopefully be hitting up all kinds of shows in P-Town and Seattle over the summer.

Yeah. I was going to get a Sonos. But ended up with a logitech squeezbox system. I picked the Duet up for £200 initially, which is a much better deal than the 800 or so per Sonos unit.

I don't know why'd you'd post that in here. Don't we have an Apple thread?

EDIT - oh, the whole "competing with Android" part. Well, that's speculation from the journalist. They can't compete anyway. Android's success has nothing to do with it being cheaper or more affordable and if that's how Apple sees it, they're dead wrong.

Yup it would be a stupid move. It would reduce the "proper, expensive" version's sales more than steal the market share from mid-range.
Now Iphone fans have to pay shitloads of cash for the newest Iphone. With a cheaper version they won't have to anymore.
People who want Android would buy it anyway. There is a group of people who buy Android because it's a "cheap smartphone" but I doubt that a lot of them would turn to Apple if there's Android there already. Most of all there's no Apple product with decent value/quality ratio so a cheaper iphone won't be cheap for what it'll offer anyway.

I mean - I see the logic behind trying to save the market share that they're losing but it'd be more of a shot in the foot for Apple.
