I figured Masta knows most of the info. on this, but... Samsung dubs its mobile processors Exynos, dual-core 4210 (formerly Orion) arriving next month -- Engadget

I've been thinking about putting Android on my first-generation iPod Touch. Seems like a good number of people have it working just fine, but there are a few apps from iOS I would like to keep. I haven't read too much into whether it can run iOS apps as well with some weird hack. I told a friend with an iPhone 4 about it but I doubt he should try it out. I constantly hear him getting excited about something Cydia now allows him to do that I've been able to do for some time now with Android and it's hard not to come off as condescending when I innocently ask "wait, you couldn't do that before?"

On Facebook, it seems that a handful of my friends, including my cousin, got the VZW iPhone within the past few days. My cousin actually switched from Android to iOS, citing the App Store as being the reason he switched. Wonder what he meant? But he was switching from the LG Ally, so...he probably couldn't quite enjoy all of Android on that phone.

Samsung preparing a 10.1-inch Galaxy Tab 2 with Honeycomb for this Sunday

Samsung preparing a 10.1-inch Galaxy Tab 2 with Honeycomb for this Sunday? -- Engadget

Samsung's MWC 2011 presentation is this Sunday, at 6PM Central European Time (midday for those on the American east coast). We already know it will feature a dual-core evolution to the Galaxy S smartphone and we know for a fact there'll be at least one new tablet on show. Pocket-lint is today filling in some details about said Tab successor by identifying it as a 10.1-inch Android 3.0 device. That means Samsung is stepping right up to Motorola, whose Xoom still looks likely to be the first Honeycomb tablet to ship, and saying it can do better. It might just be able to do it, too, as the new and unnamed Tab is said to be physically smaller than Apple's iPad in spite of having a slightly larger display. Somewhat less believable is the mention of a dual-core Qualcomm processor as the thing to power Samsung's new tablet -- can you really see Samsung undermining the future success of its Orion / Exynos chip by using a competitor's hardware? Then again, weirder things have happened.

Weird thing is, that the Galaxy S2 might use Qualcomm chips at the beginning. At least I know of a prototype with one and lately some local rumors also support that.
A Samsung tablet with Qualcomm 8260 SoC (1,2ghz) was rumored long ago by Samsung employees here (software for Samsung's mobile devices is written in Poland, partially by less successful interns from my university as Samsung is one of the least preferred companies to work at).

To be fair, I think that if the question didn't get answered here, ARon would've gone to another forum eventually. 2 people on the board have already rooted their G2s and a third and fourth person are considering doing it soon. so why not?

There are some problems with some devices ARon. For example, the HTC Desire Z (not the G2) had an update which made perma-rooting it more difficuly (if i remember correctly - not sure what the situation on that was).

When i had mine, i rejected the OTA updates (for Android 2.2.1). I waited until i flashed CM6.1.1 which was based on Android 2.2.1 source code anyway. So i now have root, custom ROM and the latest stable CyanogenMod ROM for that device (HTC Vision).

This is the guide i used.
HTC Vision - XDA-Developers

Good luck with it.

Uh oh, looks like someone got the wrong date for Samsung's MWC keynote. The above screenshot (now placed after the break) is captured by the eagle-eyed folks at Moveplayer, who spotted what appears to be an embargoed article about the Galaxy S 2 (or Galaxy S II) over at Korean news site Paran. While the offending press shot has since been removed, the text remains intact with the following specs: Android 2.3 Gingerbread, 4.3-inch display, 1GHz dual-core processor, HSPA+, Bluetooth 3.0, and 802.11 a/b/g/n WiFi. Additionally, Paran says that this new handset weighs 116g (4.09 ounces) and is 8.49mm thick -- which is close to, if not the, thinnest smartphone device we've heard of yet. (For the record, the Xperia Arc is 8.7mm at its thinnest point.)

The article also mentions that 10.1-inch Honeycomb tablet that we heard of yesterday, confirming it will pack a 1GHz dual-core processor, 8 megapixel camera with "full HD" video recording, and dual surround sound speakers. Sounds promising, but only time will tell whether all this is true or simply a matter of lost in translation.

Update: OK, so we've done some spying and can confirm that both devices are very real, and their specs look legit.

Update 2: Oh snap! Samsung Hub managed to get hold of a high res press shot of the Galaxy S 2 before it got pulled off the Korean sites. It sure resembles the Infuse 4G with an extra home button. We've posted the pic above for your pleasure. [Thanks, Tran Quoc Hop]

looks quite nice. reminds me of windows phone 7 a little. they seem to have gotten rid of the curves, but one thing we'll never hear the end of is its similarity to the iphone 4 in terms of aesthetics.

Yeah it looks a bit too Iphone'ish. Sort of similar to other new phones in the Galaxy line.
Especially the Galaxy Ace:

Actually the Galaxy S2 seems to look like Galaxy Ace with a bigger screen and a second camera.
I bet that the final version will have some more Samsung touches. Probably it'll pack a curved screen and a Samsung logo.

It really does. I kinda look at the looks of the phone, with the hopes that it distinguishes itself from others when people see you using it. Otherwise, people will just assume you're another iPhone tool.

Yeah and the fact that lower mid-end Galaxy Ace looks very similar to the Iphone 4 (and packs very similar specs - size, screen size, materials used) I thought that it might be a good idea - people can buy something that looks like Iphone 4 and has superior OS for many times less money.

However I hoped a Samsung flagship to be unique. However it looks like Samsung's whole new design has been made to look Applish. I understand that they aimed at the "masses" but I would feel a bit insulted by Samsung.
