50 cent - Get It In

It's not really the issue of quality. I have a crisp 320 mp3.

It's the issue of recycled flute and piano. Boring percussion. The sad thing is people will eat this shit up at the clubs.

Why is it sad?

If it gets you (and I don't mean YOU because you're not the type) to dance and have a good time at a club, what's the problem?

The song isn't designed for you to go to the club, with your $300 Dr. Dre headphones, ask the DJ if you can plug it in into his equipment, and bump it in search of innovative sounds.

Anyway, the song is OK. It will probably sound better at a bar/club. I heard "Get Up" the other day and it didn't sound too bad although I was buzzed. But, when I bumped it on my computer, shit was wack.

The problem is that 50 Cent is falling off at THE ONE thing that he was supposed to be dope at, and that's making club songs.

I at least hoped for the chorus to be good...But, what DO YOU MEAN YOU GET IT IN? like the dick in a pussy? Or what? 50, you're too old to be making your urban phrases.

At least he didn't put an R&B singer on his single...which is what he was criticizing other rappers doing lately in one of the recent interviews. But, that was hypocritical as fuck because he did the same thing with Ayo technology.

It's sad because I consider lyrics to be very important but nobody goes to a club and listens to the words. It's sad because I've seen people dismissing art because that music don't fit the popular format. It's sad because this song is crap from the beat to the lyrics but it's going to get airplay, and better music is left untouched. It's sad because 'outsiders' will consider songs like this to be representative of Hip Hop as whole. It's sad because people will say Hip Hop sucks, and I take that personally.

If you want rhythm and rhythm alone, pop-in a fucking techno cd. I've been to a few clubs and the way they jack up the bass and drown the rest of the beat is really really sad.

Do you even remember what you listened to the last time you went to a club? Sure you do, same old crap that you can shake your booty to.

One more thing: It's sad because, even with all the money and energy invested into making this song, it will be forgotten about in 6 months.

this is just ridiculous. the beat is SORTA hot, but what's with new age beats being boring? the piano you hear after a while is pretty dope, but why does it stop during the chorus? i mean, there's such a lack for energy in this song i almost get sleepy just listening. 50 sounds bored with himself.

I don't disagree with any of that except that you can't substitute techno for rap if you want to dance. Not according to the girls in the US. In Europe and elsewhere, it's a different story but that's because they started dancing to dance music and shit and just kinda adjusted to hip-hop. But in the US, if the girl started dancing to rap music, she's not going to hear techno and tell herself "this is the same thing".

Anyway, that might be pointless to you and it doesn't change your overall argument, but I just wanted to make that distinction.

I could actually go on and on, picking at this beat and why it sucks. The chorus thing is the worst though, I mean, Dre should really know what a lead synth is. This simplistic hiphop is wack. It's why I didn't like that Kid Cudi track SOFI uploaded as well. It's like it's one instrument short of sounding good. You know how when you have a lead melody and then some chords in a lower octave or some shit, that sounds powerful and dope. It's like every new hiphop beat is missing those ground chords that gives it a full sound. Someone already mentioned the percussion. In fact, what percussion? Is there any? I only hear the bass drum and the snare drum, there is NO percussion instruments that I can hear in this song. So forget percussion, it's not boring, it's non-existant. The drums themselves bother me too. The snare sounds fine, but that kick sounds nothing like a Dre drum. It's too much in the background. Instead of having a full, boomy sound, it's a short, digital snappy sound. It may sound good on a good system, but in my headphones it just sounds simple. Reminds me of Ne-Yo - I always thought his music was corny as fuck cause you'll have like a really beautiful harp with 808 claps in the background and the most fruity loops sounding synths ever. This beat reminds me of that as well. Dre used to be renowned for his drum programming. On his first two albums, if you listen to the drums and percussion, every drum beat is interesting. Xxxplosives for example. The way the drums sound, the samples he used, the way they're mixed. Beautiful.

This isn't so much a critique of Dre though, because this basically sums up my feelings about most new hip-hop. Hey, I'm all for experimenting, and that minimalistic thing can be sorta cool once in a while, but ever since Snoop's "Drop It Like It's Hot" it's like people are trying to make the most simple sounding shit. It's supposed to be music, and new hiphop just makes me think about Chronic's signature. All that rap is is clicks and whistles. Shake was before his time.

Edit: Just saw SOFI's post. Wanted to add something. I'm not putting down a sub genre of hiphop, or individual artists. I still listen to some of the new shit. But I always find something missing. My critiques have nothing to do with the mood and tempo of songs, so a party banger can be more musical and still be a party banger for example. Just wanted to clear that up right away. This is why I overall prefer older hip-hop music with the few exceptions.

i heard the song yesterday by chance and originally thought it was an amateur dr. dre sounding remix of one of many typically formatted 50 song's... then later i heard it was actually a new 50 dre produced song.... like someone said on previous page, 50 sounds bored of himself. i'm so off chops that i barely remember the hook, but it probably was bad.
