Ottawa-born R&B singer Keshia Chante, 20, will reportedly be playing late singer and actress Aaliyah in a biopic if the singer and actress' life.

The film is suspected to be released in the new year.

Chante, a Juno-winner, has some acting experience. She starred as herself in Cat's Cradle, a Canadian indie flick filmed in Edmonton, and had a guest spot on Global's Da Kink in my Hair. The casting decision may also have to do with the fact Chante looks like Aaliyah, who died in a plane crash in 2001. Aaliyah sold 32 million albums worldwide before her career was cut short and was nominated for five Grammys.

Actually, at least on this picture, i can see some kind of resemblance to Aaliyah.

And i agree with SOFI. I mean, is there anyone on this planet who does not agree?

Surprised Keisha Chante is playing her. Keisha is a huge Tupac fan.

None of you know her? She's a decent singer.

Wow that Girl is a knockout. im sure she'll deliver a great performance in the movie.

i do miss Aaliyah a lot, doesnt seem like 7 years has past. :sad2:

hey Sandeep anything on any future unreleased songs comin out?? i had read a while back that Aaliyah had recorded enough songs for 1 or 2 more albums. do the record labels have the tracks sittin in the vaults, that would be great to have a new 15 track unreleased album.

i know i miss her a lot too, and she would've of been 30 this january coming up. imagine that. they say the good die young. aaliyah was quite funny too and did a lot of donating to charities.

there have been some unreleased songs which have leaked within the past year.

yaushameen michael - girlfriends (feat. aaliyah)
time (unfinished)
giving up

amongst others. im pretty sure they have some more in the vault, but not enough for another album to be honest. thats what i think anyway.

last year they released the aaliyah duets album. some good songs on there, however i think some songs had poor production - only like 2 of them.

check it out if you can. a while back, i cant remember where, i read that they were planning to release a 10 year anniversarry album in 2011. but i cant seem to find it on the internet anywhere, so im not sure if its a rumour. nothing is concrete yet, but who knows maybe something will surface, at least i hope.

maybe they will release it on the 10th anniversary along with the 10th anniversary album, some of the songs may feature on the biopic.

i must say, im glad they are doing a biopic about aaliyah.
i thought that when it was announced, they were mistaken for missy elliott's biopic where they may have given someone the role of aaliyah alongside missy.
