The Renaissance is a great album, exactly what a long time fan who was distancing himself from the genre which I truly love needed.

The Renaissance is stellar, this album IMO is already a master piece. The re-worked songs which were included from the previous shelved Open/Live at the Renaissance LP came out sounding a lot better then the OG's. While the newly manifested tracks molded into his initial vision perfectly. The way the albums flows, with each song coming together and the over all blending is superb. All in all considering, this album is the best album i've heard in 2008 so far by miles in all genres of music.

Shoot me.

I was waiting for someone to make a thread about this album.

He delivered and then some. So fluid, so cohesive, laid back and pretty mellow, it's exactly what ATCQ embodies.

"What good is a ear if Q-Tip isn't in it?"

It's boring as fuck.
You would. But people with ADD do have troubles listening to quality deep rooted music, hence why there are rappers like Wayne etc.. for people like yourself.

IMO this album is the evolution of his music growing and maturing from ATCQ, Amplified to Kamaal, Open to finally this.

Great ish.

I enjoyed this album very much after listening to it the firs time. It gave me the feeling the Foreign Exchange album gave me after listening to that.

Kamaal?
when did it come out?, whats the album like?
It was made between 2000-2002 and was set to be released 2002. The album is the BLUEPRINT and direct influence to Andre3000's and Cee-Lo's later projects. It's a collaboration of live instrumentals, jazzy rhythms dipped in neo soul with motowns best aspects thrown in. Tip sings through 70% of the album. It's make or break for fans but personally i love it. It sounds so ahead of it's time that some 6 years later it still sounds at least 10 years ahead of whatevers out now. Including this current lp Tip is releasing.

Open is much of the same thing but IMO it was a slightly watered down vers. of Kamaal and perhaps Open is more like the final vers. of The Love Below from Dre3000 that we heard.

Mind you both LP's Kamaal The Abstract & Open: Live @ The Renaissance are 2 hell of a dope albums that when you listen to them you can't help but trip out on Tip's actual musical talents and visions. You realize Tip is a lot more Lenny Kravitz then Big Daddy Kane.

interesting, thanks for the info, i always thought that andre was just a big prince fan, i didnt think it would have been influenced by TIP.
its seems like tip was ahead of his time,

now snoop and kanye are singing in their tracks who would have predicted snoop would have made a track like that back in 94.

i wonder if 2pac would have tried singing, at times i always felt some of his hooks were almost on the verge of him singing .

cheers big time, i didnt even know Tip had so much solo albums out after Amplified. that album really did put me off, but now i want to try and give it another listen.

i found the article amusing

Record Exec: "I don't think this album is going to sell."
Q-Tip: "But every album I've made has sold over half a million units, including all the Tribe Called Quest albums."
Record Exec: "You were in A Tribe Called Quest?"
Q-Tip: (says nothing in return, makes note to call Universal/Motown Records.)

i really enjoy Kamaal the Abstract album, its fantastic, the production on it is so deep, i like experimental music its also fantastic when you get talented artist not afraid to try, thats why i am such a big prince fan aswell.
