The Official NBA Thread 2011-12

"The source says Battista is making these claims as he works to finalize a tell-all book deal."

I'm not calling the guy a liar but come on.

David Stern called Abe Pollin the NBA's most revered member. Pretty great compliment.
it wouldnt make much sense if it only was a single ref that rigged these games. its a group thing. like if youre doing a group project and one person is fuckin it up, youre gonna let them know. i dont see any of the refs puttin a holt on what he was doing.

I saw the highlights as well. I think he's putting on an MVP performance really early in the season. The move where he split the double team was pretty slick. My guess is that he can keep it up only for as long as he wants to.

I think team of the week has to be the Warriors. Only six players fit enough to play and they beat the well rested Mavericks on their own court. That was a classic performance.

How about those New Jersey Nets? Is that a tough season so far or what?
is it lol nets really suck right now. i know injuries played a role in that but damn, 0-14. they got some talent, like 4-5 players and after that its a major decrease in skill level.

Nene is putting down impressive numbers this season again...

today, so far 3rd quarter
7-9FG 2OfR 6DefR 6 assists 1 stl 3Blocks 17pts

his averaging almost a double-double for the season

So much for "He's having family problems man."
Told ya he didn't want to play.

I'm sorry, but Iverson never adapted to a team. He expected the rest of the team to adapt to him. He could have done a lot more had he played it smart.

^i kind of agree with that. he was given a real oppertunity to adapt with the pistons/grizz imo. like with the pistons thing, i dont think none of really gave him a chance and behind the doors they had turmoil was going on and adding iverson added more fuel to fire.

the grizz just signed for the money. they didnt care if he dropped 4pts or 40pts. most of us knew from the beginning it wouldnt work out playing with the grizz.

on a championship squad, he can be a valuable 6th man but no championship team is interested in him because was has happend the last season.

my advice wouldve been shut up just come off the bench and show you can still play at a high level then ask for a buyout and hope a playoff team signs you.

His ego is too big for a secondary role. He was never used to it and I don't think he wants to get used to it. If the team isn't centered/built around him, it doesn't work. That doesn't mean it'll stay that way. I just can't see him not playing basketball anymore. He'll definitely come back but he'll have to adjust majorly.

It's sad, though. He was my favorite player for the longest time. I think he's the only favorite player I ever had. I admire many players but shit, I had his desktop wallpaper printed out on my binder for the longest back in middle school/high school.

i remember when iverson was on top everyone tried to do that crossover lol. i was too young to recall AI rookie season, i usually watched jordan games back in the day or atleast those are the only ones i recall.

Lets get all nostalgic on how it all began for A.I during his rookie season.

Whoever put this together didn't waste time deciding what the first highlight should be.
I wonder how Jordan and Phil Jackson felt afterwards. You can hear Phil Jackson saying "Michael! Get on 'em!"

LOL!

Can he win.... nope, not cus he can't win but if bron bron actually participates like he said he would then everybody is already giving him the win before it even starts

You know in HS they faced off in the dunk contest ? Brown and Lebron ? Supposedly shannon was supposed to win, but got jipped and they gave it to lebron. I personally thought shannon had the better dunk.

^Oh yeah, when LeBron went to Duke.

smh.

but naw, i know you meant HS, yeah I watched that when it was going on. I do remember some fuckery going on. The big thing was when LeBron was head to head with the rim and shit.

I like that bit of info. I still have posters of Iverson during his Philly days in my room. That's the part of his career I loved. His story on how he made his way up to play for the 76ers is unbelievable. Makes me think how life is full of lows before the highs come in.

I never got to watch a full Jordan game live but, we had plenty of edited replays on telly this half of the world. All they ever showed was the Chicago Bulls vs whoever. Once in a while it was the Lakers :D True story: they once spent a whole year replaying the Lakers-Bulls finals series every Sunday.

On a championship squad, he can be a valuable 6th man but no championship team is interested in him because was has happened the last season.
True. I'm gonna get totally flamed for this. :noworry: After considering all the implications of this thought deep down, I keep wishing Lakers could sign him up.

I'm biting my tongue so fucking hard right now...
Whats this about? The back and forth about your thoughts and Killuminatii 71 about Iverson? :D :D

I only noticed that when NBA TV did a special on it. That's a definitely a classic moment right there.

I tried looking for youtube clips of that but, no luck. I'm sure they will surface in due time if Brown ends up confirmed for the dunk contest. I've been hoping he would be one of the contestants, its already proven he can get up there. Hey, pre-decisions will always be there in sports. Remember Jordan vs. Wilkins?? People still debate about that dunk contest to this day.

brown gets up there. i think he got a solid chance of winnin. i dont know if lebron got the creativity for what, 3 rounds?
No doubting Shan-wow's ability but, Lebron pulls off some crazy dunks in game time or even warm up. I think he's got creativity. I wouldn't be surprised if Kobe gives Brown some ideas either.

So we had a slow day in the NBA but plenty of talking points. Say what you want about Shaq but this story should be given headline priority

Shaquille O'Neal pays for funeral of 5-year-old North Carolina kidnapping victim - ESPN

Still on the Shaq trip, I think Cavs are doing a pretty good job without him. However, looks like he'll be back in the lineup.

Shaquille O'Neal of Cleveland says he will play for Cavs on Friday night - ESPN

Then of course Jason Kidd beats Mark Jackson on the assist list. WTF?? I didn't know he was second all time in the NBA. Especially when I see him doing his thing on TV :D

Dallas Mavericks point guard Jason Kidd moves into 2nd place on NBA's assists list - ESPN Dallas

If Jason Kidd wants to beat Stockton's record, he better get some tighter shorts. With all that restricted movement, it just might give him the urge to pass the ball more.

Finally a reminder of Lebron's dunking repertoire.
