Film & TV Requiem for a Dream

#1
I watched it first a few years ago when I was younger and told myself I'd never watch it again. I watched it again last night for some reason... and I can safely say it had no less an impact on me this time.

Is there a more disturbing, intense and all round fucked up 10 minutes in cinema than those last couple of scenes in Requiem?

Ahh, the title didn't ring a bell but I ran a quick search on it and I HAVE heard about that movie.. the French one, yeah? I remember I watched the controversial underpass scene and didn't think it was too bad, but admittedly I haven't seen the movie in its entirety. Thanks for the recommendation, dude!

I love/hate fucked up movies, haha.. any others?

I have cried every single time I saw that movie (well when I watched it alone and didn't pretend to be unaffacted). The pace is brilliant, it slowly goes from good to bad and then the whole shithouse falls down.

Don't know if it's a good example but you should watch Dirty Pretty Things with the lovely Audrey Tautou. It's not that fucked up but it got to me.

Irreversable... Yah I've watched it in French. The head bashing scene is quite something... lol

Chronic, Dirty Pretty Things, now that's a great movie.

i remember watching Spun. i think that's the name. i noticed that just like whenever they shoot up in requiem there's this little montage, there is a very very similar montage in Spun.

Spun isn't a fucked up movie like Requiem, but it was slightly entertaining. It's about speed heads.

Requiem fucked me up too. The day I watched it and the two following days are noted on my calendar as "the dark times".

How ironic, I was just complaining about how many commericials and TV shows have been using the Requiem For A Dreams theme tune, Lux Aeterna, in recent days. Its the theme for Sky Sports and Sky News, the basis of the theme from Torchwood, and Britains Got Talent to name only a few.

This the only movie I can think of that should be shown in High Schools all over. I have it on DVD but, I haven't watched it in at least 3 years, I found it devestating and disturbing.

All though I did laugh my ass off when that weirdo said "ass to ass"

I'm gonna check out both those movies recommended.. that Bad Lieutenant one looks especially cool.

And to the dude who said "Spun", I like that movie too, but as you said its more entertaining than depressing.. more along the lines of "Fear And Loathing" I'd say.

Just to keep with Requiem.. which character would you guys say hit you the hardest?

********IM SURE EVERYONES SEEN THE MOVIE BUT JUST IN CASE SPOILERS COMING BELOW**************

I think Harry's was the most cringeworthy and intense.. when he injected right in to the wound right through to it being amputated.

But I think I felt the most sorry for the mother.. and I think her character had the most impact on me.. the acting was just incredible on her behalf especially.

Then again, I guess you could say that all the characters were in the end healed I guess except Marion. Although its unclear, you can expect Harry and Tyrone to kick the addiction and the mother to stop her addictions, even though I guess her brain has turned to mush. But Marion's still a junkie at the end and when you see the final shot of the characters all curled up, she's still cradling her baggy of dope. So in that sense her character is the most depressing as her situation is going to continue to get worse until she's dead.

Hmm, I dunno, what do you guys think?
