In the wake of Friday's (April 25) verdict acquitting three New York City cops who shot and killed Sean Bell in 2006, Mississippi rapper/activist David Banner, Compton rep The Game and Queens bred lyricist Prodigy have all gone on the record to voice their outrage.

Not one to bite his tongue, Banner has been vocal in his speaking up for hip-hop, as with his stance against Al Sharpton's criticism of rap lyrics as well the mishandled Hurricane Katrina tragedy. Today, he gave SOHH an earful about what he sees as New York giving African-Americans the middle finger, and the "cowards" who allow it to continue.

"I was outraged but I've gotten to the point where I don't get mad anymore," Banner told SOHH exclusively. "I have to think logically. I think one of the problems with America is that we've adapted Bush's cowboy mentality to everything. With the Sean Bell situation New York is basically saying, 'f*ck n*ggas'."

Banner was shocked that while the three officers were brought up on eight counts, not even one charge against the cops stuck.

"[They] shot Sean Bell 51* times and they got eight counts and you can't convict on one count," Banner said. "Not even endangerment? You shot 51 times homie!"

The rapper said "cowards" allow injustices to go unpunished and he counts himself amongst the lot.

"They know that we not gonna do sh*t," he said. "We ain't gonna do sh*t but beef amongst ourselves. Our generation is a bunch of cowards and they know that and that's including me. All of us, we cowards and if you're not a coward then do something about it."

"All these tough ass rappers, where they at now," he added. "Where are the football players? The basketball players? Where are our senators? Where are the other black cops that work with them cops that shot their children? They're cowards!"

West Coast rapper The Game took his frustrations into the studio and recently recorded the track "911 Is A Joke," which debuts tomorrow on ThisIzGame.com.

"This could have easily been me, my brother, my family," Game said via a press release. So this song is for Sean Bell from my heart. My deepest condolences go out to his family and wife Nicole Bell."

"The NYPD is just a branch of corruption connected to a giant corrupt tree called the United States government," Prodigy of Mobb Deep said via a press release. "Right now we have a government that controls the people, instead of people that control their government. Until we can do that, there'll be several more incidents like the murder of Sean Bell."

And until then, Banner said he has reason to fear.

"It pisses me off, I'm hurt and to a certain degree I'm scared, too," Banner said. "I got to be enough of a man to say that."

This is gunna come back to bite those guys in the butt big time. You shoot at a guy with no reason to be shot at and you don't get away with it. Fortunately karma has a way of striking back even if we can't without getting thrown in jail for more time than those "men" deserve.

it seems as though a lot of people have no idea what exactly happened in this case. they didn't "shoot at a guy for no reason," Bell was running from them and rammed an unmarked police car. he was also intoxicated at the time. the cops were way out of line for shooting the guy 50 times obviously, and i almost shit myself when they were acquitted, but Game is an idiot if he really thinks that it could have been him or his family. unless he makes a habit of running from cops and ramming their cars with his family present, it's not going to happen to him, and to imply that the cops just shoot at black people randomly is false and completely ignorant. RIP Sean Bell.

how am i ignorant? i never said racism doesn't exist, or that cops don't abuse minorities, especially blacks. but cops are not going out on a daily basis and just shooting random black people for no reason as some people seem to think. it's convenient that when things like this happen, people forget that Sean Bell wasn't exactly a law abiding citizen, he was a crack dealer. does that make it right for the cops to shoot him? fuck no, of course not, but if he had been an upstanding citizen i don't think this would have happened. cops can be racist, that is ridiculously obvious, but people want to paint all cops as racist criminals when that is simply not the case.

and it's not as though the cops saw Bell walking down the street and thought "hey, let's go shoot these black guys over here," they happened to be investigating the club Sean was having his bachelor party at (for something completely unrelated to Sean, supposedly the club owners were allowing prostitution in the club) when they overheard someone in Sean's group threaten to shoot a woman ("someone go get my gun and shoot this white bitch"), at which point the group headed out to the parking lot towards Sean's car. now if you were a cop and you overheard that, what would you do? just let them go and possibly get the gun and let them shoot this woman? no, you try to stop them, which is what they did, and that's when Sean ran. it doesn't matter in that context whether he had a gun or not, the cops had reason to believe he did. the cops were reckless in opening fire on a moving vehicle in the middle of the street, and 50 times no less, but it's not as though this was some random incident where they just decided to go pick on the black guy.

^^^I hear ya. Its like every reckless move a minority makes, we seem to always pay the full price for it when these cops didn't pay a damn thang. And I wasn't saying that ALL cops are racist and ALL cops make it their mission to go out and shoot em up, but unfortunately thats the majority I've. I don't know what its like in any other city, but the police down here in Florida seem to alwayz be harassing me and my other black homiez. It would matter if we we're stand-up citizens or crack dealers out-of-action. We'd get fucked with. This whole country is goin to hell in a handbasket if we don't get our act str8 and develop better justice

Much respect to Devious for stating that because I swear, I didn't even know that was the case. The only thing I hear on the news is that dude was having a party the night before his wedding, he happened to pull out something (or looked like he was about to) then outta the blue, the cops fired 50 shots.

now i still think the cops should've gotten some type of charge, but against them as much as i was before.
