Tupac's Estate to release box set & biography film? "300 unreleased songs" confirmed

An article on Cleveland.com has popped up called "Years after their slayings, Tupac Shakur and the Notorious B.I.G still cast long shadows on the world of hip-hop".

In the article, Tre Maxie, director of the Tupac Amaru Shakur Center for the Arts, is quoted as saying "Shakur left behind nearly 300 unreleased songs when he died."

"Most of those songs eventually saw the light of day, although enough material remains to fill a couple more albums," Maxie said.

"There's talk of doing a boxed set, too, but it's not confirmed," he added.

Some Tupac fans have already prematurely jumped the gun assuming this is confirmation of a 300 track boxed set of original unremixed recordings fan have been eagerly begging for since the bastardization of Tupac's posthumous releases began.

If you take the quotes into context it is clear Maxie stated that most of the songs had been released, however there was enough for a couple more albums; the boxed set seems to be another afterthought from the Estate. Probably another boring unnecessary greatest hits type product that lumps all of the poor remixes over the last few albums into one neatly packaged and under promoted box.

Whatever it ends up being, if it ends up being, this article is hardly confirmation of the much wanted and needed "OG boxset," but we can keep dreaming!

But by far the most interesting new piece of information to come out of the article is that "a Shakur biopic is in the works, although the project is still in the development stage."

A movie about Tupac's life? To be honest I expected they'd start production on one when the Notorious BIG biopic was announced, I guess some rivalries never die. No disrespect to Biggie, but I don't think any other individual story in Hip-Hop history could make for a more drama filled and entertaining film than the life of Tupac Shakur.

Damn, i was almost about to bust a nut at the posibility of there bein' a OG boxset. But i still hope that dream can come true

And yea, not that i got hate for biggie, but 2pac's life story is a lot more compelling and thought provoking. Like a modern day shakespeare or Malcolm X reincarnation or somethin'

let's not kid ourselves, Pac himself wouldn't have released the OG versions. they were '1st drafts' and were done so that 'the people that love being in the studio and love mixing can do it later'.

Lots of good points all around. Course, what people want are the original untouched recordings. I have to admit I love remixes and it's probably a good move (sometime, somewhere) to make a dance track or a party track out of a few of the songs but I always considered remixes as bonus material not the meat of an album. I'm sure there will eventually be a release of all originals but it won't be until the hype that can be generated by a rumored Tupac album is about dead. They'll say whatever they have to, a new unreleased rap here, an original never before heard track remixed by the hottest producer there, but that's probably designed to get the real fans as worked up as possible and then milk each track for all they can. It'll be a cold day in hell when we can sit back in our wheelchairs and listen to the original tracks where our grand children will be telling us how outdated we are...

He says theres enough left for a couple more albums.

But even still, those will be scraping the bottom of the barrel. You'd have to expect all the best stuff has already been released.
