Is it on material success, or on time spent with the people you love?

The smart person is the one who knows how to say no to opportunity in order to have time for self, family, and friends. Fostering these relationships is truly what's important. Otherwise, you're going to get that call that your mother, your father, your brother, your friend, or someone else close to you is dead, and you'll regret the paucity of time you made for that person.

You may rationalize that you were too busy because you had so many bills to take care of. That's because most of us have a constant need to spend. We certainly buy things we don't need. How about making the choice to buy nothing that is not essential for six months? Buy only what you need to live; make no purchases simply to satisfy a whim, or for convenience. You probably don't need more clothes. You certainly don't need more toys and gadgets. We try to make things replace time spent with people. But deep down we all know how well that works!

nobody ever said on their death bed 'i wish id spent more time at the office'

i work with my best friend right now which is perfect. we enjoy material things from time to time but we know whats really important. money, cars, fame, is all just fun for us. i only ever really have fun when im with my friends tho so that will always remain my focus

my older brother once told me time spent wishing is time wasted. he died shortly after that. anyway the point to the story is dont wish, just do it

I disagree with the preconception that you need to sacrifice time with loved ones to achieve material success and believe that rather with the right balance you can have enough monetary success to have a more confortable, happier, and more eventful time with family and friends.

JON IS ON THE BOARD

with the right balance...
I agree you can do both, but I see how most people get more and more focused on their careers and jobs at the expense of family.

(Is this really Jon who went off to balance a family and a law career? Your focus should have been on the board, not family and not career. We are your family!)

:D

Like both of you said, you can have both. And i agree with Jokerman as well when he says, things have changed towards focusing more on career. Its the time of individualism.

Personally, i think ive found the right balance. So im happy.
