I dont know man, Nas...he just kills this. I wanted to see Rich Boy do another verse but his is still real good too. When I first heard this I wondered if Nas pronounced Sun Tzu wrong cus he says the T, I always thought the T was silent, so maybe I'm wrong.

Its pronounced Soon Sue or Sun Sue which just goes to prove once again that Nas is a fake wanna be intellectual dictionary rapper that doesnt understand half of the shit that comes out of his mouth. Yep, I said it. Nas is a studio intellectual; which is worse than a studio gangster if you ask me.

I can actually tolerate Lil Wayne on that song, lol. He still isn't dope, but whatever. I like the song. I'm just gonna laugh at the "Nas is a studio intellectual" comment. I don't even wanna start a debate on that. I could care less. Although I do disagree with it.

Sun Tzu.. I think I've also heard people saying "Tsu".
Actually it's hard to say as Tzu is an indirect conversion from Chinese. It's also written in many different ways and all are correct (Sun Zi, Sun tze). I guess in Chinese it's quite close to "zu" but on the other hand it might be a language matter.
It might be that in English "Tzu" is pronounced as "zu" or "su" because there are many examples of "T" being silent there but I'm not sure. A stupid example but Pac pronounced it somehow as "Soon Zoo".

edit:

"How is Sun Tzu's name pronounced?

Sun Tzu's closest Chinese pronunciation is "SOON-zuh." See below.

s
-
as in "same"

oon
-
as in "tycoon"

z
-
as in "prize"

uh
-
as in "about"

You will often hear Sun Tzu pronounced like "sun sue" -- most likely caused by its very spelling based on the popular Wade-Giles system. Though this is quite astray from its origin, we would consider it valid for the simple fact most English speakers would naturally pronounce (and identify) Sun Tzu that way."

So as I said it's mainly affected by the way English people would pronounce it. In Chinese there probably would be a short "T"-like thing heard thus it's "Tzu" and not "Zu" but I'm not 100% sure about that.
Anyway if Nas was a studio intelligent he would use Tzu's real name "Sun Wu" I think.

Thanks Masta, so Nas is right, kind of. Seems like people think there are many ways to pronounce it.

It's obvious anyone can think what they want of another person, you callin Nas a "studio intellectual" is reaching though. You don't know the man, I have no place defending him really either...so just make it quick. We don't know what he has read or studied or anything for that matter. We know what people that know him say, they think he's a genius pretty much. We know what we hear on tracks, it's obvious he is intelligent. Don't you think you're kind of overreacting? Cus of pronunciation....between different languages. Then the "Studio Intellectual" thing... come on.

"Hoodrats don't abortion your womb."
"You can host the TV like Oprah Winfrey!"
"
Egypt was the place that Alexander the Great went
He was so shocked at the mountains with black faces
Shot up they nose to impose what basically
Still goes on today, you see?"

What's unintelligent about those?

I always liked that first one you put too

Hoodrats........we need more warriors soon, sent from the star sun and the moon.

As far as the Great Sphinx goes, no one really knows who did it. The name I see come up most is Napoleon, but he didn't do it. Didn't Farrakhan come up with that anyway.

Yeah we know what we hear on tracks, pop in the I Am album for example.

Nas was a fake thug so I dont think its a stretch to assume he is a fake genius either.

Dont get me wrong, I love Illmatic, It Was Written and Stillmatic, everything else is so-so, but I dont like that fact Nas sometimes says some shit just for the sake of sounding smart.

Nas is wrong on the Sphinx quote, it wasnt Alexander the Great, he is just trying to make it into a racial thing, a black and white thing, when it wasnt.

Alexander The Great didnt do it. Napoleon didnt do it; Napoleon actually built neck supports for the Sphinx to help preserve it, but the nose was already gone.

"The one-meter-wide nose on the face is missing. It has long been presumed that the nose had been broken off by a cannon ball fired by Napoléon's soldiers. However, sketches of the Sphinx by Frederick Lewis Norden made in 1737 and published in 1755 illustrate the Sphinx without a nose. The Egyptian historian al-Maqrizi, writing in the fifteenth century, attributes the vandalism to Muhammad Sa'im al-Dahr, a Sufi fanatic from the khanqah of Sa'id al-Su'ada. In 1378, upon finding the Egyptian peasants making offerings to the Sphinx in the hope of increasing their harvest, Sa'im al-Dahr was so outraged that he destroyed the nose. Al-Maqrizi describes the Sphinx as the "Nile talisman" on which the locals believed the cycle of inundation depended."

Nas? A genius? A genius would know his facts or at the very LEAST research them before putting them into his lead single and making such bold racially themed claims.

I might be one of the few who like I Am... Ghetto Prisoners is my shit. What exactly are you trying to point out on I Am, cus I've listened to the album a lot so be more specific I guess.

Might as well keep it goin. Nas is a fake thug?..or did he grow up and stop rapping about certain shit. I don't get that gripe some people have about him being fake. Yes he is contradictory, everyone is, he accepts that too. He said he has a song called Contradiction, I mean that is known. But him being fake, what is he being fake about.

As for the Sphinx, you know how many Afro-centric historians write their own history, a history they believe. Because of white peoples ability to exclude facts and make their own shit up. The history we know sometimes aint the truth. I dont know much about the Great Sphinx and who did what but I know no one exactly knows who did it. So him saying Alexander the Great probably came from somewhere else, I'm saying he defintely didn't make that up to sound smart. As far as the racist base under saying it was Alexander the Great, that is definitely there.

My opinion on Nas' fake thug image I guess is subjective. I saw the way he was in 93 and then later on with his shiny suit stage along side Puffy and the way he is now. I guess it doesnt really matter, I just dont believe in dude as much as others. That doesnt take away from his talent though or my enjoyment of a lot of his music.

However, the Alexander the Great remark is a big mistake that we can discuss because its right there he made it theres no opinion around it, in comparison what i think is fake thug you may not agree with, but this is something that is an either yes or no situation. Did he say it? Yes he did. Is he wrong? Yes he is. Did he take the time or effort to research it? No he didn't.

In my opinion that proves that Nas isnt as smart as he claims to be or fans would like to believe he is. He is saying something is true, and using it to back up his beliefs on racism, so you would think he'd know what he is talking about but he obviously does not. Those bars carry with them a lot of weight based on the racism theme he has attached to them, and the fact that what he uses as evidence to back up his claims is totally wrong doesnt make his case seem very strong or him seem as smart or revolutionary as he would have you believe.

Finally somebody else agrees with me on this one. I used to get maad hate from people for saying that all the time
