Never even heard of it, apparently its on Channel 4. There is also an American version (Why do Americans make their own versions of our shows when they don't even understand the humour).

If it's off the air after 12 or so episodes, it's a failure. I don't know the story behind its on-air failure, but I assume that not many people tuned in to watch it. So, your precious British humor might not be so precious to your British. On the real though, I liked it. I couldn't figure out many jokes because many involved your pop culture icons that I don't know about, but it was quality nonetheless.

The Office is an Emmy-nominated, and Golden Globe Award and BAFTA Award-winning British television comedy that first aired in the UK on BBC Two on 9 July 2001.
A failed show does not win Golden Globes. It was off air after 14 episodes because the story ended (David Brent got fired).

LOL.

The story can be continued, you know. If it was such a success, why didn't the writers feel the need to feed their fans with more of the office?

Because the story was about mainly about David Brent, whats the point in continuing the show when you kill of the main character? Also the writer was the main character, and he wrote another award winning show "Extras" that has now ended. Great shows don't need continuation.

That's not how it works. When The Office was on screens, it was one of, if not the most watched comedy show on TV, not to mention the shitload of money it made in DVD sales.

They stopped writing it because they couldn't take it any further and didn't want to run it into the ground. Also, they wanted to capitalise on it's success with a new show that all their new celeb buddies could appear in, so they did the show "Extras".

also, log onto yahoo man.
I uninstalled it. Plus, I don't have internet in my apartment at the moment, so I only log on when I can bum off somebody's wireless. I'm rarely on AIM and MSN as well because of that.

Thanks for the clarification. However, that's how it does work though usually. At least in America. It's just that, from what you say, that's now how it went down for The office in UK.

12 shows sounds like nothing to an American, because most American shows have twice as many episodes in one season. Doesn't work like that with British TV, especially comedy.

The IT Crowd is shit.

Yeah I meant that that's not how it works over here.

I don't know if you've ever heard of a show called Fawlty Towers, starring John Cleese. Originally aired in the mid 1970's, but it has become basically the most beloved British comedy shows of all time, it's basically a legend and a British institution.

In a list of the 100 Greatest British Television Programmes drawn up by the British Film Institute in 2000, voted for by industry professionals, Fawlty Towers was placed first.[1] It was also voted fifth in the BBC's "Britain's Best Sitcom" poll in 2004.[2]
It gets the most amount of respect more than almost any other British comedy show. It only ran for 12 episodes but has never been off the air since, they've ran re-runs of it since the 70's.
