No one has even heard the track with Lil' Wayne and they are already hating, grow up. Where is DPIII though, that is a good question.

I'm not gonna turn this into an "I Hate Little Wayne" threat, but yeah.. that disappointed the fuck outta me also. Shit.
Lil Wayne is Phonte's favorite rapper at the moment. I'm sure you heard him say it on one of the recent mixtapes when he was talking about wayne's freestyle over that wack jay-z song from kingdom come.

Now, to answer the questions.

The way the rap game works is, you put a person who's hot at the moment on your album so that they will attract fans to your album. If you ever wondered why Jim Jones appeared on so many albums and remixes after "Ballin" blew up, this is why. It's a technique that's been used in rap music for a long time. Same goes for Paul Wall appearing on everything, etc.

I'm sure Linx doesn't want to hear this, but Phonte probably put him on Get Back due to really liking the dude and due to the "hotness" factor.

^^^ would you consider that selling out then?? i mean, i understand he wants to make money, but putting on a rapper that isnt even all that great, is that the way to go?? jay-z likes nas now, supposedly, and 50 too.. how about putting nas on it?? 50 over wayne is a good choice too... the LOX arent popular, but they made up with jay finally too, right? put them on there.. where the hell does lil wayne come in?

i just feel that some people may think bringing the coasts as well as their styles is a good thing, but even if they didnt have beef, would a pac or a snoop or dre been accepted on an album like reasonable doubt?? i personally hate the whole "this coast is better than that coast" but when it was around, it really helped force rappers have a unique style....

^Lil Wayne IS the HOTTEST rapper at the moment. He is on a shitload of albums, singles, and remixes in 2007. That is the reason he would be on the american gangster album, if the tracklist is correct.

Now, if you want to know whether that is selling out, listen to the new Little Brother album. They address the issue. See if you agree.

As for me personally, I stopped caring about "selling out" before I even turned 18. I realized that what is important to me is hearing music that I enjoy listening to. I don't care about realness, fakeness, street cred, nothing. If you sell tons of coke a year but can't make a good song about selling tons of coke a year, I won't listen to it.

Ps. There's nothin worse than listenin to these white people here on campus preach to me about underground rap and how mainstream shouldn't be listened to. You can keep your mf doom and your aesop rock, eemooos.

Trust me Sofi, I see why they put him on the album. He's the hottest rapper in the game, yeah. He's everywhere and making ALOT of music. He's terrible though.

^^ that's what i was trying to say sofi... he is the hottest.. i know.. but he sucks...

i dont buy into that whole mainstream sucks idea and i dont shy away from mainstream artists.. its just that right now and for some time, they have been sucking... diddy was great way back when... but now, his latest shit was horrible...

mf doom is great, but yeah, he isnt the only good hip hop right now.... if something isnt quite underground can it still also not be quite mainstream? lots of people know about immortal technique and JMT, what are they considered???

^^^ would you consider that selling out then??
No. Its no more selling out then getting a hot Dre beat or a Timbaland beat or a Neptunes beat or a Premo beat or anybody else that is hot and makes hits.

Jay Z makes an album full of Neptunes and Diddy beats and people worry he is selling out because of one Lil Wayne feature, which will probably be the hook? Come on. LOL.

And Phonte got him on there because he thinks hes dope and Wayne is his favorite rapper, hows that selling out?
