Cruyff actually said before the tournament Brazil should not be favourites for the 98 World Cup, he pretty much said they are too Ronaldo dependent.

It was a little shock that it was France who won the World Cup, they were and thought of being a very ordinary side.

A team that contains Marcel Desailly, Bixente Lizarazu, Laurent Blanc, Lilian Thuram, Zidane,Henry(ok he wasnt as good back then) Djorkaeff,Petit could never be thought of as ordinary.

Well i'm not disputing the fact that they were not a ordinary team, however they were thought of as an ordinary team. They were not favourites to win the World Cup from the start and only scraped past Croatia, Italy and needed a golden goal vs Paraguay.

The only shock in that tournement was Croatia. But to us, we were pissed that we weren't in the finals with the team we had.

Indeed. even Brazil got lucky with their run in to the final, bar Holland they played the easiest team in the remaining rounds and still almost made a mess of it against Denmark..I still remember R.Carlos overhead kick attempted clearence which resulted in a goal for Denmark :laugh:

I see what you mean. I dont think France were among the favourites going into that tournament but did have a very strong side. Brazil are nearly always favourites going into the World Cup.France beat Italy on penalties which is always gonna be a tough game. Paraguay had a great defense with Gamarra oustanding and Croatia had a great team in that World Cup as well.

Roma are a useless side.They wouldn't finish in the top 8 in the premiership.I often wondered why Mancini was hardly ever in trhe brazil squad. I saw why tonight and in the other Man Utd-Roma games. rubbish.
