Word on the street, and thus StreetHop.com, is that Jay-Z is trying to leave Island Def Jam, giving up his presidency.
Rumor has it that Jay wasn't happy with the Island group hiring Jermaine Dupri to head their Island Urban label; as he considers Island Urban direct competition to Def Jam with it being under the same umbrella.
What I've heard, once again on the street, is that the truth is a little less drama filled, although Dupri stepping in on Jay's turf may be a factor. Jigga's long time creative collaborator and industry legend Rick Rubin is Vice President over at Columbia, and it seems he wants Jay to jump ship and join the "super staff" he is currently putting together.
It seems the ladies could be influencing things in this as well, Dupri's girl Janet Jackson joined Island a few weeks ago, and Jay's girlfriend Beyonce is on Columbia.
