First off, i'm not a hater. I've posted here for years now and i'm sure many people can co-sign that. The real reason i'm making this thread is to see what people see in Lil Wayne. Being a very big fan of hip hop, I realize every rapper will have fans. There's other rappers I don't like (for whatever reason(s)), but this guy just seemed to blow up and he's everywhere now. Honestly? I can't stand it. Every time I search for new songs or mixtapes, I see 10 new songs and 10 new mixtapes from Lil Wayne. And each of them will have pages of Wayne fans posting about it.

I really don't like anything about the guy to be honest. His voice and sound are terrible. I'm usually the one to jump in when someone says something like that, but with him.. I think it's true. He makes a shitload of music, but the shit he says 98% of the time is ridiculously whack. If he was dope and making GOOD music consistently, i'd give him his props. Whether I like him or not. I can't even give examples of whack Wayne lines. Because I wouldn't memorize them if they were that bad. But i'm sure you can hear plenty if you go listen to one of the new 42 freestyles he put out today.

And as far as that "Best Rapper Alive" shit, well that's a joke and a half to me. He's NOT the best rapper alive (neither is Hov, but that's another issue completely). He's not even top 50 alive. LITERALLY.. yes. He puts out alot of music, but why does that matter if he's whack and the music is whack too? And like I said, i'm not a hater.. so I don't make these kind of posts about random rappers all the time. I've thought he was whack since day 1. It's just the fact that he's blown up all of a sudden and I just cannot understand why.

I agree with you man, Weezy is average, no more, no less. Overhype and a good marketing team is what he has.

Exactly. It's too bad that type of garbage appeals to people (especially in the streets) more than what dope rappers like Saigon, Joe Budden and other rappers like them put out. Although I don't like most of his actual music (dope freestyles), Fabolous is a dope rapper. He's 10x the rapper Lil Wayne IS and can ever be. Don't ask me why I mentioned him, just an example to prove i'm not just hating on one dude.

Yeah, you are a hater, though... I've noticed you making posts expressing your distaste for Weezy for more than a minute now. There's nothing wrong with that, I love haters and consider myself one, but you should own that you, sir, are a Lil' Wayne hater.

Overhype and a good marketing team is what he has.
Except he really doesn't... the resurgence in his career came off word of mouth through the SQAD tapes. He achieved his success the old-fashioned way, through hard work and grinding.

If you don't like Weezy's voice... that's cool. I don't understand how you can hate on his "sound", though, since the majority of his output these days is him trying to black out over dudes' beats.

Weezy has a good flow and consistently drops entertaining verses. He has a lot of filler, yeah, but even the joints where he's on cruise control are more enjoyable than most of the alternatives. He has a lot of enthusiasm for what he does and clearly loves hip-hop, and it shows through his music. That's easily preferable to the various degrees of discontent and "I'm doing this for the paper" and other forms of fronting and meanmugging most rappers present.

Edit: Fabolous? Saigon? Joe Budden? What exactly makes them better than Lil' Wayne?

I really like his flow on some shit but yah some of his lines are pretty wack.

"Help u get off like the weekend"

Kinda like Budden was sayin in his interview on the site, Weezy puts out so much shit, he is oblivious to his wack lines it seems.

I'm just being honest my dude. I really don't see myself as a hater when it comes to Lil Wayne. Cause i'm not just here with no reasons saying that he's garbage. I think I have good reasons. Not because they're MY reasons, but i've seen plenty of others say the same exact things. It's like I said though, I just don't look at it like i'm hating. It's more just not liking the guy, thinking he's whack. Cause like I said, there's plenty of others I don't like.. but i'll admit it if they're dope or whatever the case may be.

I agree that he works hard and all that shit. He's a hard working dude and I won't take that away from him. He's achieved his success through hard work and grinding just like you said. But I still think he's over hyped as well. Too many people like the dude and I just never understood why. And yeah, i've said little things about Wayne in other posts, but I didn't consider that hating those times either. It was just something I wanted to say.

To me, there's nothing entertaining about him or his verses. And his flow.. was just never really much to me. I'm not saying it's terrible though. As far as the other rappers I named.. to me, they'e much better than Wayne. Wayne might make more music than those dudes, but when they make what they make.. it's much better than Wayne imo.

“The first time I realized I was the best rapper alive - and before I go any further into this conversation, let me let ya’ll know what I mean by that ‘best rapper alive’ shit. I don’t think I’m better than anybody personally. I don’t think I’m better than anybody spiritually. I don’t think I’m better than anybody in any way, form or fashion. But as far as this rap thing, I think I am better than everybody. I’m a competitor, I hope everybody else feel the same way about their craft. If you do, it makes it better for the people. It makes it better for the listeners. And that’s how I feel about mine, so if you a listener and you wanna hear somebody that’s dedicated into what they do, I’m so dedicated that I feel I’m the best, and that’s that.”

Please stop with the whole he claims he is the best thing.

So why I like Wayne. I'm addicted to his flow. His swagger is out of this world. He comes with some crazy off the wall rhymes all the time and I dig that. He aint afraid to be goofy on a track. I like when he sings. He is personal with his music. He is simple, so many rappers strive to be complex and sound too intelligent, Wayne just spits his shit at face value and its simple which can be bad for certain people but it aint thanks to his delivery and flow, the hottest nigga under the sun is a good example of that. Too many rappers are in love with being this and being that, which is a reason I feel a lot of bad "underground" cats get love that isnt justified(see Immortal Technique) and Wayne is just himself. It doesnt seem like he is trying, his sound is natural. etc etc etc. So yeah thats why I like Wayne.

wayne is the greatest lyricst ever. i mean listen to is latest mixtape. what was that line "yea i fucked up, i know i fucked up..." and it continues for a few more lines all ending on the words "fucked up".

of course i am being sarcastic. people give him too much credit. his voice sounds like a cat being choked. all he has is great beats, youth, and simple rhymes....if you can even call them rhymes. when i think of wayne i think of the movie idiocracy

Everyone mentions his improvement, personally, I feel as if TI has improved greater then Wayne. His punchlines are objective, as in, it can come as across as either corny/sick....I dont find his often quoted "excuse me Mr.toilet, Im the shit" as clever at all. He's blown up simply because of the net and also the fact that his improvement with Lp's such as the Carter series got people jumping on him, after all, currently he is batting 2 for 2 in terms of good albums, and thats something that people want to jump on since no one else is putting on consitent shit like him. I think also the fact that he isn't just rapping over traditional south beats (compare Carter I to Carter II) anymore as well which makes him more playable in the NY....the whole Wayne phenomnon is entertaining though, and the Carter III will prove if all the hype is warrented (since this will be his biggest LP in terms of hype, big name producers and features), otherwise, Juelz>Wayne (at least to me)

I think the only guy out of the ones you've mentioned who you could legitimately argue for is Joe Budden. I can *understand* why someone might say Saigon. But Fabolous? Fabolous makes better music than Lil' Wayne?

"Hes so sweet, said she wanna lick the "wrapper", so I let her lick the "wrapper" "

"Tempt me and I'll bust your medulla"

he has clever lines no doubt, but what puts him ahead of other message board hip/hop fans Gods such as Big L?Its not hating Linx, not everyone likes Wayne like major league,at least your not just sayin "hes whack"and not backin up that claim. He has some rhymes but 1 hot line doesnt make a hot song.Carter I was more enjoyable 2 me then Carter II, and I also plan 2 peep Carter III

Fabos best song "Return of tha Hustle" off his disapointing LP isnt touchin' "Go DJ" or "Hustlers Muzik"

Why don't you back that up and name off 50 rappers better than him then..
don't say that because Linx will not only put up 50 emcee's whom are better than Wayne but he'll probably drop one song from each of those 50's rappers which shits on Wayne's entire catelouge.

Ive heard Pharoahe Monch drop better lines then all of that and thats when Pharoahe was coming wack!.

The entire southern movement has become stale only for the fact that everyone is sounding the same, every song is the same and every beat and rhyme are almost the same. I do appreciate something with slight meaning and wittiness like Field Mob or Backwudz, along side the greats like UGK Outkast etc.. but it seems all you need these days is A) a southern american accent, B ) a ridiculously bassed up casio beat and C C ) a wack, over done topic. The lyrics themselves can be ass, the flow can be ass.. as long as the accent, beat and topic is straight. HIT!.

Only time Wayne had beats like that throughout was Hot Boyz and 500 Degreez.
