If anyone's interested, I have been asked to participate in a live debate about this issue on the BBC Asian Network in about an hour's time (between 9.30 and 10am UK time).

It will be on Nihal's show which is being covered by Yasmeen Khan today as Nihal is off.

Basically they want a rapper's perspective on whether Emily should have been kicked out of the house for using the 'N' word. And they want to know about the usage of the N word in general, and in the hip-hop scene.

I will probably quote Tupac at some point, his remark about the difference between nigger and nigga.

I will say that her being kicked out was the right thing to do though, since you can't escape the massive range of people that will be offended by the usage of the word.

Let us know how it went.

Dont think i'd use Tupacs thoughts on the words n***** and n****. Just cuz thats pacs thoughts on it dont mean its right. I dont think anyone non black should be using any of these words.

^^ are you black then stefan? i hope so because i dont think it was right, at all, even if she didnt use it in a certain context i.e. u fuckin n*****, she should not of said it! I thought she was educated? It seems all the blonde 'toffs' think they can say that word like its an everyday normal 'cool' things to say.

It happened on shipwrecked aswell with that blonde totty. I just cant understand her total ignorance, ofcourse people will be very offended by the usage of it.

yeah, tupac really has nothing to do with this and bringing him into this ten years later because of a nice idea he had isn't the way to go. remember he impacts you because you know shit about him, but that's not true for everybody. most people who aren't really into pac are gonna think "lolol" probably.

It's relevant because they called me onto the show to give a rapper's perspective and they asked me whether people I associate with or have worked in the industry have used that word.

Regardless, I didn't end up saying that - the gold ropes etc quote. But I was asked in what context it is used in hip-hop and I did mention that Tupac in particular used it in a positive sense as an acronym for "Never Ignorant Getting Goals Accomplished" and then there are people who follow that belief and use it in that sense, although the majority of people use it as a term of endearment.

I also made the point about people using racial slurs aimed at them to remove the power of that word. I believe I got onto that point after the host asked me what I thought of the Asian clothes designer who has a clothing line called "Pak One" - on the clothing it is written as "Pak1" - so that's all along the same lines.

They asked me whether I thought she should have been removed from the house and I said yes, because you can't escape the fact that a lot of people will be very offended by that word no matter what context it was used in.

I was asked if I thought rappers should stop using that word and I said that I believe in freedom of speech.

Anyway, I'll listen back later and either post a transcript or try to rip the audio from the stream...or both lol.

But she used it in the same context as Charley, and nobody seemed to take offence then. Charley even said "I'm a nigger" (or "nigga"), which I imagine would offend some black people who don't like to use the word. If Nicky had said it to Charley I don't think anyone would have made such a big deal about it, because she's a racial minority too, is that fair?

Black people and Asians didn't use the word to demean a whole race of people that they had just enslaved and taken from their country against their will.

A minority is free to use the racial slur as a defence mechanism against it being used to insult them.

Yeah but whites arent the only ones who enslaved the blacks, their 'own' did it to them first.

But that does still not make it acceptable.

Stefan i dont think that you should of typed the word because it does. to me, and i am white, look just not right basically.
