it's just bad that we gotta vote Prince vs bob in the first round. Anyway, I think what you miss Militant is the huge influence bob and his music had on the entire world. Prince might have been able 2 play different styles, something that bob never really did - but also from a political point of view bob is just so much more important in history than prince was. bob made people unity, all over the world. Can't vote against bob. sorry. :)

I can't agree that Bob was more important in history. He has the early death syndrome advantage. When Prince dies (hope it doesn't happen), you will see just how revered he will become.

Prince broke the racial barriers to become, with MJ, the first black artists on regular television rotation and his music defined an entire decade. I would never ever argue that Bob didn't also have a massive influence on the world, or that Bob is more politically important, but are we talking politics, or are we talking music?

None of the polls are going to be easy. They were put together randomly, but everyone on the list is a great artist.

No! It's supposed to be tough. Even if I'd grouped artists together based on general music style, eventually you'd have to mix genres together.

I'll put up another poll tomorrow, the one I have in mind is equally tough.

I know and I don't ask you to start again cause...that what happens if we put randomly people together and there are goin to be other hard battles. So it's ok, but it remains a hard choice, that's all I say.

well i think Bob Marley gets so many votes because his music, his image and his message is universally loved. Prince is a great artist, but not everyone is going to like his stuff because it is so eclectic. The Clash, again, people outside of the genre probably aren't going to see the impact they made on music and probably don't listen to them. but Bob Marley is loved and respected around the world by people who don't even like reggae unless it's Bob. i think he had a bigger impact, not just on music but on the world itself, than either Prince or The Clash. i don't think it's just people picking Bob Marley cuz he's "cool"

Actually, it's going to take like 6 months at this rate.

I'll post up a couple more polls now, then once they've both got a reasonable number of votes I'll put up two more.

I, controversially I'm sure, went with The Clash. I'm a rock 'n' roll kind of guy, and I think The Clash are a really underrated punk band. Certainly better than The Sex Pistols.
Fuck Bob Marley and fuck Prince! The Clash were the creators of Punk Music, which still is a lot more known and has tons more followers than Reagge and Funk-rock

Prince does a bit more than funk rock.
Don't worry about it coops. We know the truth. We know Prince would murder most cats at most genres of music. i dare anyone to find me a better slow jam than "Adore", a harder rockin track than "Darling Nikki", or a pop tune to beat the straight up pop brilliance of "When Doves Cry".

ok come on man, we all know you love Prince, but everyone's opinion is different. i can think of plenty of songs that are better slow jams, rock a lot more, and are better pop tunes than any of those songs, but that's my opinion. it doesn't make my opinion wrong tho, music is subjective and everyone has different tastes. it seems like you're trying to convince everyone that Prince is the best, but not everyone will think so, no matter how many times you post.

That's fair enough, the funny thing is though that I could actually name you better slow jams by Prince than Adore, better rock songs by him than Darling Nikki and better pop songs than When Doves Cry. i just used those as popular examples.

Anyhoo, I don't think Prince gets enough props relative to his talent and achievements.

There's a million motherfuckers who probably still think Sinead O Connor wrote "Nothing Compares 2 U", think The Bangles wrote "Manic Monday", and think Alicia Keys wrote "How Come You Don't Call Me...".......it irritates me, but I guess P is laughing all the way to the bank.

exactly. what difference does it make to you if people think that? a lot of people think Sinead wrote Nothing compares 2 U because it was her big hit, people aren't going to think of it as a Prince song, and i'm sure Sinead doesn't want them to think of it that way either. but dude got paid, he doesn't care, so why should you? i'm not trying to diss or anything, it just seems like you're going a little overboard in defending him, that's all.
