As some of you may know, German electronica group Kraftwerk are one of my many favorite bands. Saw them live a few years back - might sound strange but for guys standing in front a big video screen was a better show than a lot of hip-hop shows I've been to.

Anyway, one of their songs, "Numbers", has been sampled by two hip-hop producers and I believe both songs will be out soon. The first track is Channel 7 aka 7 Aurelius featuring Ashanti - "My Number Babe", and the second track is Nicole Scherzinger's "Steam", produced by Bryan Michael Cox. I'm going to post all three tracks, and then I want to know what you guys think about who flipped the sample better.

The original song - Kraftwerk's "Numbers":

Channel 7 aka 7 Aurelius ft. Ashanti - My Number Babe: (produced by 7 Aurelius)

Nicole Scherzinger - Steam (produced by Bryan Michael Cox)

I like Channel 7 and Ashanti's song better.

I'm a fan of Kraftwerk, but I have never seen them live or this video, haha, shit was kind of funny.

Mostly paying attention to the drums I like 7's more. Gives me kind of a Prince vibe, might be why you like that version too, who knows.

That other chicks, who is already solo but now goin solo, reminds me of some Britney Spears track, cant think of it though. But wow, how bad is she? Even if this came on in a club I'd go sit down.

Yeah a lot of people have said there's a Prince vibe. I think the Prince influence is most strongly evident in 7's vocals.

Just off topic : do you like that Unkle Jam group?

UNKLEJAM are ok. to be fair, the only song I've heard of theirs is "Love Ya" which I dig the production on but I thought with the vocals they were trying a little too hard.

Hip-Hop today would be vastly different if it weren't for Kraftwerk, and 'Numbers' is a classic jam. Some people don't get it though. Have a listen to Kraftwerk's "Trans Europe Express", that was what Afrika Bambaataa sampled and turned into "Planet Rock".

have u heard 7 aurelius new tracks on his myspace?

and he got one out on vinyl called 'r u coming with me'
Have u got it?

There's a new track on his MySpace called "She Got A Girlfriend" which it says is the single - it sounds OK but there's too much going on in the song, IMO it needs stripping down a bit.

He mentions in his blog that he has scrapped two versions of the album. Hope My Number Babe didn't get scrapped, although it's possible it has, especially if Interscope have put a lot of money behind Nicole and her song.
