Just wondering if you can develop a friendship with someone you only have contact with through the internet? or Would you have to meet them to consider them a friend? Would you even consider meeting someone you met on-line?

I have a few friends I met 5 years ago on the internet...we met in person and kept in contact. We are still friends today.

So...

Yeah, I think you can develop a friendship online that can turn into a real life friendship.

The internet is a form of communication. I have real life friends I only communicate with through internet means (email via my sidekick, etc).

The internet is so common place now, and its such a good way to communicate, that its a perfectly acceptable way to keep in touch with old and make new friends.

I met SicC online years ago, then we met in real life. He and his family have welcomed me into their homes, Ive stayed with them, and I consider him fam. Who would have thought, considering I banned him once ;)

love your mentality !

Yes, you can definitely develop a friendship by just communicating through the internet!

I met one of my best friends through the internet. I know this person for more than 4 years i think and weve only met three times due to the distance between our homes. Still i consider this person my friend.

Btw. im waiting for people to say stuff like: Omg, net friends...go get a some real friends you nerd.

Sure. The probability of making a close friend via the internet is higher, since you're most probably going to meet them whilst exploring your own interests.

FlipMo is my side bitch. :D

Actualy me and him talked about it once and we consider eachother friends. But I agree that it's weird to have net freinds you never met.

It is really odd that people find this issue shocking.

In the past, people fell in love as a result of hand written letters that took several months to reach back and forth. (pen-pals)

You have webcam and audio sessions, instant messaging, emails, chatrooms, message boards, social networks like myspace and facebook.

It is a million times easier to connect now

I wish you were my real friend.

I think so, there are people i've met online and ended up meeting in person and i'm really good friends with them. A few people from here, some people from myspace who I went to school with and didn't know from Campus, etc.

It's easier to really get to know someone online I think because there's no need for the fake front people put up during the first three months or so of getting to know them. You can totally be yourself because... if the person doesn't like you, who cares? Block them and log off.

SO, to your question. Yes. :)

meyer has no friends

i on the other hand am best friends with dontay and will be moving into his new home as well as working at his office where everyone will call me dwight

yup..my point exactly..

how can you say "my point exactly" when you havent said anything in the thread? you never made a point in the first place

It's a figure of speech. Here's an example:

The 80-year-old said, "If you ask me, I'd say somebody else pumped a couple
of rounds into that beaver."

The doctor replied, "My point exactly".

without a doubt your internet friends can be your real friends. if i had more time in my life, i'd love to get a mic and a web cam and talk to some of you. there are some cool ass people id love to hang with. you guys by far are more intellegent and smarter than some of my friends i hang with now.
