I think times like this need something a bit more "live." I know we discussed Discord and other stuff but even if it doesn't come to that, a group chat on WhatsApp or Hangouts or something will do the same thing. I know the board means a ton to you and many others and it should stick around for legacy posts and such, but the way we post on here, all of us, is more suited to a Discord or group chat service. Whether it be links or random thoughts, it might be the way to go.

And since you'd drive yourself mad opening and closing your browser for SH, a chat service would probably put your mind at ease to post more freely and, at the same time, not check your phone until you got a notification.

I disagree.

Firstly I don’t drive myself mad opening and closing a browser. I just have a tab where streethop is always open. Doesn’t bother me. Otherwise the whole internet and all of my regular visited sites would bother me.

Secondly I don’t want notifications and live messages blowing up my phone when I’m spending quiet time alone, with my mom, or with my girl.

This is perfect. Dive in. Catch up. Jump out. Repeat.

Nice try though. If we get enough traction again I have said we’d move to discourse or something more modern like that — it costs a lot, but not discord. I use slack at work. In my opinion they serve different purposes.

But hey never say never. We technically started on mIRC back in the day. Maybe it’s something we will roll out one day... but only if the usage on the board requires it.

Yep. When the guy came to install my dial up internet when I was a kid he installed mIRC for me and connected me to efnet.

First place I went was #makaveli

Jon banned me that day.

The next day I came in with a different username and pretended to not know who that guy was from the day before.

The rest is history.

Nope, no idea, all we know is there will be cuts made to my team -- I dont know if they are KPI driven, or salary driven, or time at company driven, or if they are random, or how many there even will be. I'm literally in the dark. They've handled it very poorly -- they should have worked things out and then just told us, not left us hanging for a week.

Yeah that seems rough announcing cuts then leaving that dark cloud out there to hang over you for a week. It's a stupid decision by management too because it will clearly impact staff morale

Shit. We had that at our company twice in the past couple of years but it normally happens in Q3 when they realise theyve fucked up and wont make their numbers.

Even though I wasnt affected it did give me a kick up the backside to get my own stuff going with more focus and Im a lot more relaxed now. They could fire me tomorrow and Id be good.

Im actualy leaving the company anyway after 15 years to try something new
