This is my thread

Flying in to Heathrow and need to get to Leeds. What's the best way with a family to get to Leeds on the same day as flying in? Train?

We want to tour England a bit after a wedding in Leeds, so that will be by car. And I think we rent a car in Leeds, if we end up taking the train.

What's the best option and things to see? We'll venture out of England a bit and into my birthplace, Cardiff. Otherwise it's just hitting Barnsley and Manchester on the way there.

I really want to take a train ride. Top Gear just makes it seem like so much fun in the UK.

Top Gear makes everything look fun. I really doubt it will be any different than what you're used to. You were born in Cardiff? wtf

What third world country are you from? Get a car.

Which Terminal are you flying into? T2 is the best...!

Haven't booked tickets yet. Probably within the week. I think it'll be United Airlines, so whatever terminal they get in to.

The thing with trains is it is faster and my dad won't have to drive as much. It goes from a 6 hour drive, or so, down to a 3.5 hour train ride with stops. I think. On the way back from Leeds through Barnsley and Cardiff and Manchester and maybe even Birmingham, we'll take a car from Leeds and finish in London for two days and then head back. It's mainly for a wedding, not sightseeing. I haven't been there since 98, but I think I'll have to come back later to really see everything properly.

It's just that the train will be faster and less stress on my dad. Also, we don't quite have trains like Europe does. At least not in the Midwest. The Amtrak comes close to it but still, Europe has the better trains, right?

Not sure it'll be as much fun as you imagine on the train, but ldn to leeds isn't too bad. You'll save a decent amount booking in advance (although you'll be restricted to a specific train\time)

Flying Heathrow to Leeds is only £60 (which might end up being comparable to the train price)

Will it be on a proper sized plane, or those tiny propeller planes that create about as much lift as my nipple tassels do?

In England we don't do Prop shafts. It will be a decent plane. The smallest would likely be an A320.

Also... United Airlines fly to T2. Which is where I work. It's the newest (and best) terminal at Heathrow.

Nice.

I'll have to see what happens, then. You guys make the train sound like shit. I thought it would be some high speed train with booths with a table in between. Even the Amtraks in the US aren't half-bad. But they only go like...60-80 mph.

Oh, that is shit. They look smaller than even the Amtrak here in the States.

I thought they had seating more like booths, like for a group of friends, with a table in the middle. I really am using Top Gear as a model for all of this because they go all over Europe in trains and my impression is that Europe has one of the best railways. And I'd assume that included a cabin that didn't have seats that looked like they were stolen from a 92 Corolla Deluxe.

You know what sucks? Trying to summon happiness from within. Nothing is making me happy anymore. The gym doesn't, food barely does...not sex either..fuck? Sunshine makes me happy but we've had a rainy summer so far. I hate it. I hate everything. I have to wait a whole year for a new season of OITNB.

I've never seen a match like that in my life
Neither have I.

Because I don't watch soccer. It's for tarts and knobs.

Gotta brush up on those English swears. Pillocks.

There are 3 words an Englishman uses to insult you. Any other words you think they use, means that you have never visited.

The 3 words are -

Cunt, Twat and Prick. They use them often and they can also be used in an almost friendly way. They are also, almost always prefixed with a "fucking".

Incase you were wondering... We don't wear bowler hats or carry briefcases and umbrellas either.

I have never heard anyone use the word pillock.

I like cunt but it's infinitely more insulting on this side of the pond. Like, it comes before a death threat.
