I was a bit afraid of bears in Canada since they were SHITLOADS of them there. I saw numerous just walking around chilling on the streets, one was just crossing the street in front of my face.
I got used to them after all, just hoping I wouldn't encounter one that would be pissed off. One night we were chilling in total backwoods, near a river that had salmons preparing for breeding, popping out of the river and dying there - so the perfect time for bears to camp there and just eat them. We were just laying there on the shore only with our backpacks serving as pillows, jackets and an umbrella. We were 200km from home (more like 10 thousand km from home actually, 200km from the city we stayed in). Bears would just walk around. Still, I felt kind of uncomfortable but it made for one of the coolest adventures I've ever had, if not the best one.
The most dangerous creature you might encounter here in this part of Europe when camping would be a human.
