ACTA, SOPA and PIPA

For some reason Americans think console gaming is better than pc gaming, its almost like its more socially acceptable. I've noticed this a lot recently with skyrim. Most people have it on xbox but f that. I still get annoyed by people who think console fps's are better than their pc versions.

Ah I see now. I didn't know so I didn't get it. I understand now but I don't understand why they think that way. Console gaming is a more newbie thing compared to PC gaming. I do both by the way. I often play on my PC using my Xbox Pad in front of my TV just to take advantage of superior graphics and smoothness, since modern consoles are already outdated like that. But I can also take advantage of free multiplayer, mouse and keyboard on my PC. And cheaper games and more ambitious titles and indie games. Plus I like strategy games.

I'm not sure what you mean but you asked about the part where I mentioned computer games and that's why I elaborated on it. Since SOPA and ACTA strike heavily in the video game industry (and related, like video game journalism) and it's one of your biggest national industries I'm not sure why you think that it would be lame.
I was asking if it was just computer games that won't let you play without an internet connection because I've never heard of it on 360 before. And to clarify, I think it's lame that you pay for a game that won't let you play unless you're connected to the internet. That being said I haven't seen a computer not connected to the internet in quite some time.

Nah, that has nothing to do with it. If I built a computer right now with all the best parts available, it'd be outdated in 6 months time, which is shitty for me as a consumer. Updating a computer every 2 or 3 years is hella expensive. Whereas I bought my 360 in 2007 and it won't need upgraded until the next xbox comes out.

You guys might not be aware of this but we have the biggest protests since late 80s because of ACTA. And I mean hundreds of thousands of Poles in total, in all major cities. Some people want to overthrow the government.. and most people would follow judging by what happens. Literally 90% of big Polish websites protest against Acta, as well as most artists, journalists, universities (including mine) and developers. I've never seen something so big and so awesome. Most politicians and government organizations are also against it.
The government themselves (leading party) are stuck and they want to sign it anyway, but their support polls have dropped to a mere few percent.

I've heard that America and Canada have signed ACTA. I have to say that I'm very surprised.

^Thats becaus you Polish are cheapskates.

Seriously, thank god for people who give a shit when I don't.

Most of those protesters are intelligent people who are aware of the consequences that go far beyond piracy, but I agree that there were also some kids who were afraid that they won't be able to download their favorite TV series off the internet. But that's a really small group.

If ACTA was really well-written and designed to fight against huge copyright-breaking websites and pirates who upload shitloads of illegal things on the internet I really wouldn't mind (though the piracy issue is controversial). But it's not the point with ACTA in reality. It's a garbage as far as laws in it are concerned and all can be interpreted in all kinds of possible ways, including really unfortunate ones that companies with decent lawyers can easily take advantage of.

What is the worst for us here, what we protest about is that it comes with included privacy-breaking procedures - ISPs will have to monitor what you do on the internet and build systems crafted for this so they will have to send your personal data to the company whose patents you are infringing so they can directly get their cash from you. If ISPs decline, they will pay instead.
Also it assumes that you're a pirate. It's not them who will have to prove that you're doing something illegal on the internet. As soon as they will have a REASON to believe that you're doing something illegal you will have to prove that you're okay, and they will have your computers, documentations etc taken from you in the process. ACTA works ABOVE the national law. It's an easy win for anyone who is willing to sue you over their patents/copyrighted material, especially corporations since it makes the job very easy for their lawyers to fuck you up and you cannot do anything about it since ACTA is really poorly written and contains a lot of statements that no competent lawyer should ever come up with.
Oh, it's also worth to mention that ACTA was created and signed behind everyone's backs. It was made by and consulted only with huge media companies.
There are also some other things like that they will be able to check your hard drives on the airports, remove your websites from the internet as soon as they suspect that it's infringing any kinds of copyright laws (this means that if someone tried hard enough they could shut down Facebook because someone posted a copyrighted lolcat picture) without sending a prior notice etc. etc.
That's what we're protesting about and it has nothing to do with piracy or counterfeit products - if it comes to the latter I'm all for it but it's extremely dumb that they are putting it in the same box with freedom of speech and knowledge/information exchange. In the end we get a really ridiculous agreement that should not exist, and they're signing it despite the fact that nobody (except of some huge companies that came up with it) want. ACTA should be all about conterfeit products, they should come up with a different agreement for the internet and copyright laws, that would be fair for everyone and well-written.

I read the bill or, the majority of it. I agree with it in principle, but not in the way it is written. It screws people over who just upload stuff and don't make any profit off it. But the website hosting it does make money off it without paying any royalties. Which is where the problem comes in; that is illegal in every other form of media but it's ok on the internet? I'm not allowed to use other peoples ideas in my thesis, why should it be ok on the internet?

No, it's not ok. But actually it is not, that why we have law suits and for example Mega upload was closed. So, actually, we do have laws against it and it's not like the internet is immune to it. We are not discussion if it should be ok. I just hate that argument. Same goes for "We can't have internet-children-porn movies". Yes. We all agree. It is illegal. It should be that way. It is not and never was legal to produce&provide&own it. So - that is NOT what we need these laws for.

We might need to change our laws a bit, I understand that, but again, I hate that argument that the internet is a place without laws and rights, a modern wild west. it's not true. If that was the case, why would you use online banking, why would you buy stuff online?

Second: These laws won't protect the small, young artist struggelin to make a living. That's how they try to sell it, but I think it's clear that it will help large cooperations. Don't let them fool you.

I will fight against them by continuing to download movies and music. The only problem is, RGF is down and I don't know where to go for all new music.

"<artist> <album name> download" into google.

Well, I used a forum for all the latest releases. I would just check the album section for the stickied threads, which had the latest hip hop artists there. So if I saw something I liked, I downloaded it. And these were all leaks so it was two weeks before it was actually released.

I could find a list of upcoming albums by artist, but I'ev used them in the past, and a lot of them get outdated quickly as they are not updated if a change is made. It's too much of a hassle.

the worst part about this crackdown on file sharing sites isn't that it's harder to download material now, but that it's harder to discover it. as coonie says.

Exactly my problem. Since megaupload and filesonic are down I haven't bought a single album, and I used to get 2 or 3 every month. I kind of lost interest in getting new music.

I lost interest in music quite some time ago. I don't really like these new rappers and the old ones that are still rapping that I used to lke (Mobb Deep comes to mind immediately) all suck dick and have sold out. Years ago.

This forced me to get into classical rock (about three years now) and more recently, trance/instrumentals.

I guess it's considered "neo-classical" music, but I recommend you check out a composer called "Ludovico Eiunadi (sp.?)" It's soothing piano music that's great to study to.

Actually, pirate bay is starting a whole 3d printing sort of thing. One day ill dl w car part or some shit. It will be cool

That's your own personal story. You know how many bro's play cod and madden and shit.

You know how many people simply like what want, regardless of stereotypes of what kinds of people play the same game?

Nigger.
