Vancouver is a very nice city. Only drag is that it rains often, and it's maybe the most expensive city to live in Canada (correct me if I'm wrong on that). Else from that, great city - I'd move there in a heart beat.

If it comes to Vancouver I Googled for the prices and some things seem cheaper than Toronto (public transport, a few random restaurants). Don't know about accommodation yet.
Also, it has only 8,6 rainy days on average as opposed to about 10 in Toronto or Warsaw, Poland. That sounds good.

Well, so I've planned my trip, just have to organize it now. Found out that I can go Visa-free but I need a new, biometric passport, groar bad Canada, bad. Took a sexay pic today, will take care of the passport tomorrow and hope it arrives in time.

If your looking for landscape, scenery etc, beaches, lakes etc. then Vancouver over Toronto is a no brainer. Toronto is flat, dry, arid and dusty. We do get more rain in general but August/September is gearing up to be hot and pretty dry. I was just in Toronto last month and Vancouver in general is more expensive but they are relatively similar.

Yeah Toronto is pretty Americanized when I went there as a kid, though it was nice. From what I recall, southern canada accross the country is fairly americanised. When I went to Vancouver, it didnt feel much different than Seattle in my opinion.

I've been to Ottawa a few times because I have family there. It was pretty much America Lite there. One time we drove there and to the Canadian side of Niagara Falls and on the way back, we stopped in Toronto. Went to the top of the CN tower and as soon as we got down, we heard a loud bang and that's when the great Northeast Blackout of 2003 began.

If your doing Canada you should take two months, start in quebece and make your way across down through Montreal and Toronto, across the prairies and end on the west coast. If you stop in Winnipeg I might meet up with you.

I can't talk for other cities, but Montreal is a pretty nice city to visit. There's the Old Port, the nightlife, the Botanical Garden, the people, etc. Montreal is pretty bilingual. Especially in touristic locations so you should be fine. Quebec city is also nice to visit, but its extremely French. Maybe hizzle could make some recommendations for you up there.

Toronto is pretty Americanized. I don't like it. I find it rather boring, but I guess I could see why some tourists wanna visit it. There's the Niagara falls next to Toronto. I heard great things about Vancouver. Their weather is warmer than in Montreal, but you'll catch more rain. And I heard it was more expensive too as Flipmo said.

How long are you planning on staying? The ideal thing to do is visit Canada East to West (or the other way around). But if you have limited time, you might wanna stick to Eastern Canada. I heard there was not much to do in the Prairies (my friend just moved to Calgary). But who knows, maybe British Columbia has more to offer than Vancouver.

I have a problem with accomodation though. Fhy is everything booked in September? :-(
Only very expensive options seem to be left. I'm trying craigslist but most ads are for either very short term stays or very long term (6months +).

Okay, thanks to the new passport that I need my trip to Canada has delayed by over a week, but I will arrive there on 11th of September and will be staying there for 3 weeks. I would rather be there sooner if only to meet Sofia.
I have already bought my plane tickets, through Headrow so hopefully my plane will not fall victim to the riots.
If I won't succeed with finding a hotel you can catch me in Stanley park, chilling with the grizzlies or something.

Really? I thought that West End/Stanley Park are pretty great and quiet locations in Vancouver. At least that's what most hotels there claim
