You want a tablet running Honeycomb if you're gonna get an Android tablet.

Luckily there are lots coming out like the LG G-Slate and the Acer Iconia, and they'll be more or less identical to the XOOM but cost less.

Personally I still don't see the need for one. I'm thinking next generation tablets or even after that is when I'd truly consider it

I have a rooted NookColor (7" tablet) running Android 2.3 Gingerbread.

Based on my experience using it, as well as my cousins iPad (which he has since sold), I'd say tablets right now are fun, but not productive. You can't really use them for any serious work the same way you would a laptop or even a netbook.

However, something like the Acer Transformer is REALLY interesting to me:

It's an Android 3.0 tablet, but the keyboard dock design makes it into a full laptop.

Yeah It would be pretty cool if tablet-keyboard-dock things were more popular. That way (plus thanks to Honeycomb) I could consider getting one in the future. So I could for example prepare documents with my keyboard attached and then browse them without it. Way easier than working on a laptop and then transferring files to a tablet. But still, I find laptops, especially these smaller ones to be superior at almost everything and I can always browse files on a smartphone.

I have an advent Vega. It was cheap, and has a large community so lots of roms available. It is 10 inch, which is what I wanted.

I am waiting until more honeycomb tablets are available before I make a large purchase. Mine was a stop gap.

this is the position Im in. I dont really need one right now so it would be more of a whim. I think by the end of the year it'll be easier to compare across more models and the standards will be better

you already know what the ipad 3 will have (pretty much), so you can forecast tablets that will be released at the end of the year (including current ones with price drops) in relation to the ipad 3 (if they release it next spring-summer). or compare the ipad 3 with android tablets released around the time of that release (spring-summer 2012).

i'd say wait it out a short while, competition has only just begun. by that time LG, Samsung, Sony, Motorola, Acer, Dell and others will have had at least a second (or third) Android tablet out on the market.

Ipad 3? Did I miss Ipad2?

Wow, soon I won't be able to catch up with new Iphone iterations. Looks like Apple are playing a lot of catch up.
I wonder for how long will fanboys sacrifice gazzilions of dollars for new Apple devices every few months.
I mean, I believe that even these ridiculous Iphone, 3g, 3gs updates weren't as frequent.

How can "super awesome revolutionary technologies" get old so fast, mr Jobs?

People who play geek are still convinced that apple rule. They also think Dell are good.

Must be the product placement. Dell and Apple are in every TV show and movie that I watch.
