USA cant be complaining anyway. they got to hold it in the recent past (1994) and most of the country has no interest in football . South Korea and Japan likewise. how could they bid again so soon? Australia should feel most aggrieved. England likewise. they have only got to host one World Cup in the history of the World Cup and that was back in 1966.

The problem with Australia was the time zone issue. Fifa would lose a lot of money in the European market 'cause of this. But I do feel USA should've had it again.
I agree to a certain extent, but football is at a rise in the USA. The MLS gets strong attendance and it covered strongly on most sport channels, and as much as I hate to say it, the USA are fielding a pretty ambitious national team at the moment. They still deserve it more than Qatar for their recent accomplishments internationally and domestically. Not to mention, the 94 WC is #1 in attendance and also in revenue, I believe.

Before I read any further, I must say this is a good point from the "romantic, sportslike" point of view, which i also partially share.
We need to view the Qatar bid as a bid for the Middle East and North Africa. In that region, Qatar is probably on of the best places to host it. I was impressed with their stadium plan. They're gonna throw a mountain of money against it, build a few architectural masterpieces, mostly in modules as I understand, and where the WC is done they're gonna ship the stuff to Africa. I mean, that's fucking awesome, lol.
For the infrastructure, Qatar is fine. It's a small country, lots of infrastructure, hotels, etc.
The legal issues are of course interesting, but i guess FIFA ruled with an iron fist and made sure they can get away with anything, lol.
I mean not saying i agree with Russia/Qatar out of my own romantic sports perspective, but we need to view things in context.

I'd like to say that these bids might serve as carrots to improve human rights and transparency in these countries but as we saw with the Beijing Olympics, that's a bunch of crap. Also, a good point about it being a bid for Middle East and Africa.
