Opinions?

Personally, I liked it. I thought it was well directed, well written and very well edited. There was a lot of symbolism, and Kanye is usual egotistical fashion was bringing a metaphor of his life to the screen.... He claimed influence from Kubrick and Fellini, and I believe they come through in the film.

Some may hate. Some may compare him negatively to other artists who have come before him and created similar. But I liked what he did. It wasn't a story based film as such, but more a piece of motion art.

One review I read summed it up perfectly for me.

"Given how controversial West’s every artistic gesture seems to have become, I have a feeling we’ll be in for a round of dismissals of Runaway as a pretentious piece. Instead, it deserves to be seen as a carefully modulated art-film made by a man on a mission."

While I was watching it, I was thinking to myself that people would find a lot of shit corny. Most of the dialogue was but the dialogue isn't the point, really. It's the visuals that matter.

For me, the point of watching it was to get excited for the album and excited I am. So yeah, win win.

Pittsey, how many Fellini films have you seen?

I could hardly watch it all through, some parts were boring me.

I didn't get everything Nicki Said and I don't want to watch it again right now, so I hope it doesn't fuck up my interpretation.

"It’s the story of a phoenix fallen to Earth, and I make her my girlfriend, and people discriminate against her and eventually she has to burn herself alive and go back to her world. I’ve been feeling the idea of the phoenix. It’s been in my heart for a while. It’s maybe parallel to my career. I threw a Molotov cocktail on my career last year, in a way, and I had to come back as a better person."
-Kanye West

Runaway' is about the fall of somebody and how you may change and you may try to conform to what's going on, but after you have fallen, you realize that it's not who you are, and it's not who you need to be; you need to be true to who you are ... it's definitely related to him."
<---I lost the page to where I got that from, but that's what I pretty much thought.

There are people out there that think this is a Demonic video.
The article is here:

Celebhaterz© PICS!!!!: The MEANING of Kanye West RUNAWAY Video!!!

It basically says the Phoenix is Satan, and that's why she eats the bread at the round table, and once she does it, evil shit happens.

lol. I like that evaluation of it. Maybe true, maybe not. But I bet there's lots of ways that Kanye would like us to interpret it. He sure loves the controversy.

I didn't like Nicki Minaj's accent. Surely it would be easier to get an English actress. No?

Three.

How many Orson Welles films have you watched?
I was just curious because I really enjoyed 8 1/2. Aside from like the dreamy, surreal visuals in Runaway, I don't see many similarities but maybe that was the extent of your belief as well.

As far as Minaj, I agree. People have a certain image of her and this is supposed to be a serious piece of work in a way. She comes across as comical and it makes the viewer believe all of this shit is tacky as fuck.

I thought you were having a shot... lol.

I have seen 81/2, La Dolce Vita and another one that I forget the name of, begins with V I think. Can't be bothered to google. I guess he (Kanye) was talking about the surrealism.

Edit - I googled... It doesn't begin with V. It's Amarcord.
