Wes brown is hardly second rate. He's one of the most decorated players in the premiership in the last 20 years. I understand he aint having the best of times with injuries the last year or two, but he aint second rate. If wes and gary neville went to the world cup i belive things could have been a lot better! well they certainly couldnt have been much worse. Although saying that i aint English so obviously i couldnt give a shit.

yea thats why they kept after him to get him to come back for the World Cup wasn' it?I n fact Capello wanted Carragher back since he took over and when they were stuck he duly obliged to help them out unlike a certain Manchester United player for example. it baffles me how Paul Scholes was pretty much let off the hook over that.

Its funny to see an average keeper like Robinson whining about being 3rd choice for England when you look at the Spanish squad and see a world class keeper like Reina barely getting a look in and Valdes, who had a fantastic season last season, as third choice.

kind of highlights the difference between the English and Spanish players imo. You never hear Reina or Valdes whining like Robinson and like James was at the World Cup and both are far superior keepers. By all accounts Reina is supposed to be a big character within the Spanish squad and he'll wait for his chance to be number one (if it ever comes), instead of whining.

And the talent of Spanish Keepers looks promising also with De Gea and Asenjo waiting in the wings.

I don't see why Robinson is crying, theres no England number one right now, why not fight for that position instead crying that you wern't picked for the World Cup? Fuck off dingus.

Because he was constantly played on the left wing by Sven. After scoring goal after goal for England when playing in the middle. He was fed up of being played in an ineffective area. The guy was/is world class, and can be forgiven for wanting to do his best in an England shirt. Sven didn't allow that to happen.

I'd put Neville above Brown, I think I'd also put O'Shea above Brown. Neville had a fantastic season last year. I watched every single Man Utd game, and don't think I saw him have a bad game. Even when he got sent off. He was great going forward. You wouldn't believe he was in his mid 30's. I would have taken him to SA.

yes and Carragher was always played out of position too.

Doesn't really matter what "they" wanted, fact is, with Rio and Terry, Carragher was never going to get a sniff at centre back, he knew this and thus spat his dummy out.

Even being considered to play for your country is an honour and one that should not be taken lightly, so I cannot condone anyone retiring early from International football unless age / injury is a factor. This goes for Scholes too, perhaps the best English player of my era and he too showed little perserverance, he should've stuck it out.
