Not that I think BIG's is the best.. In fact, he's not even close to being, imo.

But umm.. QUALITY >>>>>> Quantity
thats like havin 2 good/great season in a sport then calling it quit or gettin murked then people saying your the g.o.a.t.

thats how i look at illmatic when people say its the greatest album of all time. fore sure its classic but it only had ten tracks.

^never said that it has to be more but if someone can put out an album with 15 tracks and i can go thru it without skipping like illmatic, im going with the 15 track album.

^that's a stupid way of looking at it. There's nothing that says that an album must have more than 10 tracks.
i still dont understand why more rappers havent followed this- illmatic had 10 tracks (1 skit and 9 awesome songs). so i terms of songs, you can class that as 9 awesome songs out of 9 songs.

has any other album in history had a 100% success rate like that? Every rapper seems to think you need 18 songs on an album, when (over the last 10 years) no album has had more that about 8 decent songs on it (except tonedeff on archetype, but im extremely biased there haha)

if more rappers cut out the shit and focused properly on 10 songs, there would no doubt be more hip hop classics

Are you saying that Rap hasn't fallen off then?

Well, then it becomes your definition of a classic. Is a classic simply an album you don't have to skip through? Perhaps, in your vision. For some, the answer may be more technical.

nah, im saying it has fallen off, and a lot of it is down to the whole 'quantity not quality' ethos that rappers go by nowadays.

theres still a lot of talent in hip hop, theres still a lot of good songs being produced, but almost zero good albums due to everything being so rushed. rappers and producers are too quick to move on to the next track, then the next track, then the next mixtape, then the next album etc... when they could put more effort in to less music, thus potentially creating more classics

i get what your saying, classic doesnt necessarily mean 'awesome'. there are classic albums that arent awesome, and awesome albums that arent considered classic. i guess my interpretation is an album can only truley reach classic status if it is awesome with no tracks i'd need to skip through

i heard a lot of rappers claim to record about 80-100 songs during the process of creating an album, why cant they just choose a top 15 or a top 20 out of those and perfect its sound.

^Because recording a good album isn't about having top 15 tracks on it. For many, it's a concept, a continuous story told. It involves cohesion. It's not meant to be a greatest hits album or like a DJ Khalid/DJ Kayslay where every song is meant to be a stand-alone hit.
