Over-Rated Rappers

In your opinion who is over-rated and why?

Lyrically, Flow, Originality, Song diversity...etc...

West Coast:

Xzhibit. Dude has some good songs, but nothing was ever really awesome about him unless he was featured in songs, imo.

Don't get me started about The Game.

South:

Young Jeezy. Don't get me wrong. I think he's good, but to say shit like Me and T.I. "We [will be] Like Big & Jay, Pac & Snoop"

um. No. T.I. and Luda >>>> any day.

East Coast:

Call me names, but I think:

Jay Z is over-rated. No way he compares to Big and is better than Eminem. I see why he is a good artist, I just don't like people saying he is the best rapper alive. That's what makes him over-rated. Hell, right now, Lil Wayne > Jay-Z

I also never understood why Mobb Deep was so ill? A few nice songs and that was it.

lol..

...

The Notorious BIG - Great rapper, yes. But he's waaaayyy overrated.

Nas - is nothing more then meh after It was Written, other than a few songs and verses here and there.

Drake - lol, this nigga SUCKS.. Yes he can make a catchy tune, but as an emcee the dude is wack

Crooked I - this has already been discussed several times.

also.. putting lil wayne over Jay-Z is ridiculous.. Right now.. well right now they both suck, in my opinion. But if ur talking about full catalog, Jay-Z shits all over Lil Wayne.

and what makes Mobb Deep ill is their classics.

Survival of the Fittest
Shook Ones
Hell On Earth
Quiet Storm
Eye for an Eye
etc.

.. c'mon, you cant honestly say that those tracks aren't absolute classics. Does that make em the best? nope.. but they're still dope.

Btw, Xzibit has also released some ILL shit in the past. Personally I dont feel he's overrated at all. I havent in my life heard anyone say he's the dopest emcee, or the best rapper or anything like that. I personally think he gets a bad rap cuz of his short lived commercial success but thats about it.

I should probably gtfo of this forum but outside of tupac I'd say rap music in general is over rated. Maybe I just grew up but rap does not do it for me anymore.

I guess what I mean is that, outside of Tupac and Eminem, there are no rappers who I genuinely like. Yeah, Jayz, Biggie, Nas, Wu tang, etc. have their classic joints that will always be good but their songs that aren't considered classic I can't even stand to listen to.

What makes him over-rated?
Hmmm, well, to me Tupac is the greatest poet in hip hop history. But to be honest I gotta agree with SOFI, he is quite over rated.

Look people treat him like he's a hip hop god. Truth is, he's got his strengths and weaknesses like every other emcee.

He has charisma, the ability to make a wiiiide range of music and he's great at putting his emotions in a track, making the listener 'feel' his music.

But 2pac had no wordplay, His flow was average in most cases, His rhymesheme was usually simplistic, and had barely any ability to incorporate clever metaphors and similes.

The reason 2pac is overrated is much the same reason biggie is. Most people act like they were the best at all aspects of emceeing, which is simply not true.

Btw, to be completely honest Hit em up, was a horrible diss record. One of the worst I've ever heard in my life. Yet it gets rated as the best.

I'd respect ur opinion, IF I actually believed you gave all of Jay-Z's material a FAIR listen.

I posted some of his dope tracks on there... And for reall I'm not a fan of Jay-Z at all.. I think the dudes a faggot. But I cant even deny some of the shit he's released.

Jay-Z is also overrated by A LOT of people.. but on this forum, he's mos def underrated.

Cruising down 8th street
Off-white Lexus
Driving so slow
(but BK, it's from Texas!!)
Me I'm out that BedStuy
Home of that boy Biggie
now I live on Billboard
and I brought my boys with me
Say what up to Ta-ta
Still sipping Mai Tais
Sitting courtside

so they can step out of bounds quick,
the side lines is blind with casualties,
who sip the lite casually, then gradually become worse,
don’t bite the apple Eve,
caught up in the in crowd,
now you're in-style,
and in the winter gets cold en vogue with your skin out,
the city of sin is a pity on a whim.
good girls gone bad, the city's filled with them,
Mommy took a bus trip and now she got her bust out,
everybody ride her, just like a bus route,
Hail Mary to the city your a Virgin,
and Jesus can’t save you life starts when the church ends,

I have listened to enough that I still don't care for him, nor do I feel the urge to give it a few more 'fair listens' as I have already been through that path. Mofo can spit the best rhymes in the world (and I won't lie, he at times has wow'd me), he just doesn't appeal to me. Just like Pac isn't much of an MC when you break down his rhymes, he had the charisma to bring you into his songs and feel the world he's talking about. I like that. Jay-Z doesn't have that impact on me whatsoever. So, as far as I'm concerned, he can go away.

If I had to categorize him. I wouldn't put him as one of the best, but I'd be stupid to say he's the worst. He stays in the middle, where I get to have a potty mouth and curse him off - while he fucks Beyonce and sleeps on piles of money :thumb:

lol, fair enough

.. That's the thing, everyone has their own preferences and tastes. And if you can break it down, as u did. I have no option but to respect ur opinion.

But just to come in and say 'Fuck Jay-z', 'He sucks' etc. tends to get a bit redundant on this forum.. know what I mean?

2Pac was not an overrated rapper.

neither was Biggie.
how come?

I went into a bit of detail as to why they are overrated... why do u personally think they're not?

(btw I'm not trying to be a prick here, I just wanna get more insight, and have a deeper discussion here than 'So and so SUCKS'.. 'No fuck you, So and So doesnt')
