Film & TV Oscars

Hurt Locker wins best director and picture. Yeah ... right. It was a good movie, and but to win both of them? I don't think so.

When's Tarantino going to get what he deserves. Pff.

Along Monique's comments, the Academy stays political. :D

I'm happy The Hurt Locker won, it's a fantastic film. But I would have been content with A Serious Man or Inglorious Basterds winning too.

The 3rd best wins, and the 1st and 2nd best will still earn money.

Common reaction after the Best Picture was announced -

"Well, I guess I gotta see The Hurt Locker now"

LOL STFU.

Avatar did not deserve an Oscar over the Hurt Locker. Take that wack shit elsewhere.

If Gladiator, Lord of Rings, Crash, Slumdog, Titanic, English Patient can win best picture, so can Avatar. You better believe it motherfucker.

All of the nominated movies are respectable and they deserve their spots. But this win to me is Crash 2 with a woman director's historical win as a bonus. Typical Hollywood response like we saw when Sean Penn won for Milk.

Avatar lost because, while it's visual effects are amazing, the story just isn't good enough relative to the Hurt Locker (politics aside). People are blown away by the 3D effects and a cliche story.

While I can't speak for Lord of the Rings, the other pictures had original, well-written captivating stories. OK, Crash wasn't all that great, I admit. It's hard to compare different years, though. Comparisons only work for the one year.

As for Sean Penn, while he won best actor partially because Hollywood feels the need (and thankfully) to push liberal social justice in America, it was one hell of a fucking performance. It was just amazing acting.

Do you not have a bias towards Science Fiction, or are you passed that? I can see the story being dismissed just because it's made up and is not an ongoing event, especially when compared to a film like the Hurt Locker.

3D is a gimmick, I agree. I saw Avatar in 2D the first time, I enjoyed it very much. Even the predictable big dragon scene. I compare the film to Wizard of Oz.

Criteria for winning best picture (traditional)

-period piece
-expensive costumes
-love story
-mass deaths

See, Avatar was made to win Best Picture. I've been complaining like this ever since The English Patient won, and I'm not going to stop.

Whats your guys' beef with Crash? Crash >>>>> Hurt Locker.

Hurt locker is good, but not great. Surely not Oscar great.
