I think it's natural to put people on a pedestal if they are incredibly good at what they do, not just in music, but in anything really.
Do you have a "passion" so to speak, SOFI? I'm guessing no since you said there's nothing that you like that much to want to know everything about it. When you have a real passion you do want to know everything about it I think.
I know what you mean about having a lot of possessions though. I'm actually kinda the same, I have a minimalist approach and want to be able to move around quickly and easily.
Aside from my music collection, my box of mementos from my career, and every issue of "The Source" from late 2000 to late 2006, I don't really have a lot of stuff. Even with Prince, though I do collect a lot of Prince stuff, I don't collect bigger items like vinyl etc. I only have maybe 9-10 Prince vinyls, compared to about 100 CD's.
I'm really trying to scale down on the stuff I have. I'm gonna get a nice spec laptop and sell my desktop PC, sell a few keyboards, get rid of a bunch of furniture that I don't use, etc.
