This isn't even a contest.

"Empire State of Mind"'s averageness would be forgivable if the fucking song wasn't being shoved down our throats.

true that. i really loved it when the album came out, but now it's all over the place. i guess that's a good thing, but they're killing it. but i think this is THE song that the non-hip hop crowd is finally going to know from jay-z, although people have known who he is for a while now.

If one were to actually agree with the premise that Jay-Z needs "THE song" for non-rap fans to know him, then Encore from Collision Course would have been THE song.

But, Beyonce >> any Jigga song, in terms of recognition.

like Brooklyn (We go hard). Too bad his flow didn't match the rowdiness of the beat.
Brooklyn (We go hard) had one of the dopest beat on the track, but Jay's flow fucked up the entire song.

That shit could have been something like Ja's "New York" with Fat Joe & Jada on it.

But Jay totally fucked that song up with his flow.

i heard crooked i's and royce's version properly before jay's. and i heard people saying that royce killed it. the beat was always familiar to me - in the back of my mind that i'd heard it somewhere, and i knew it was a jay-z song.

i expected jay-z's version to be quite good. but no, i thought he messed it up - he had a chance to make a solid track.
