Those two aren't even on the same level of comparing, are they?

LMAO yea blame me!

I don`t know to me it seemed like Jay-z had Nas`s song in mind when he wrote his song. Why else give it the title Empire STATE OF MIND. Coulda called it anything else relating to new york.

I could be wrong but I never am.

PS. Of course Jay-z`s song doesn`t even touch...i dont know how to start this...Rappers I monkey flip em with the funky rhythm I be kickin

Nas track is a classic but as much as I dislike Jay-Z I have to say that I like his track too.
There's a nice vibe to it.

... personally dont see too many similarities between the two. Not exactly comparable tracks in my honest opinion. But for arguement sake... NY State of mind >>>>> Empire state of mind

Not really fair to compare, I think. NY State of Mind is a classic FULL STOP.
Empire State of Mind has a really cool vibe, love AK and Jay Z has grown on me over the last few years. But yeah, no need to compare.

^^^it wasn't part 2...that was on "i am...". i don't know about part 3.

they're both great songs but, like said before, uncomparable.

my guess is that rumor that nas was going to be on ESOM was simply b/c of the title. i actually wouldn't mind a remix (not really a remix...same beat) with nas and, here it comes, mase. that's right. if they get the right mase, he could be nasty on it.

what do you mean hard-hitting beats got cheesy? How is that possible?

When I think of a track like Empire State of Mind, i think of an anthem for a city. So the beat should be on some rowdy shit.

like Brooklyn (We go hard). Too bad his flow didn't match the rowdiness of the beat.

I dunno but to me it has that anthem feel to it.. I see what your saying but there are different types of anthems.. Do you think a rowdy beat would match Alicia's voice/style etc.?

It's more about whether AK would match the beat. If not, find another person. She's not the only NY-born singer.

I don't know if we mean the same thing while mentioning hard-hitting beats.
For some reason I had that "Young Jeezy" style beat in my head while replying.

An anthem doesn't have to pack a punch and have that cocky and raw "we the best gtfo" vibe to it.
Still this one pretty much did its job in a more civil way. While Jay's lyrics might not be entirely on point I have to say his wordplay fits the track nicely, Alicia Keys' chorus completes it and the word that comes to my mind while listening to that tracks is "monumental".
Listening to it feels just good.

No but its possible they both together wanted to do this type of song and didn't care if this one song wasnt hard.
I understand that and I'm in no way trying to say what would have been better for the collective good. I'm strictly speaking for me, what I like to hear.

An anthem doesn't have to pack a punch and have that cocky and raw "we the best gtfo" vibe to it.
I prefer when it does. But I'm happy the track makes you feel good. :)

This isn't even a contest.

"Empire State of Mind"'s averageness would be forgivable if the fucking song wasn't being shoved down our throats.

haha ^^ you got me worried (well, not worried - just surprised) as to why they would recycle old clips for a song which they were filming in the middle of NY anyway.

hope the video is good.

i LOVE alicia key's new song - Doesn't mean anything, great morning song to start the day off.
