Noticing from the last thread I posted we seem to have a great range in tastes for hip hop music on this board.
Now what I was wondering was what makes, a song or an album a timeless classic to u. I really dont want this to get into an arguement about if illmatic was a classic or not. I just wanna know what type of music have u seen urself listening to growing up and still listen to, and what type of hip hop do u listen to now, that u see urself bumping 10 years from now? Include some examples please.
For me personally I cant figure out what it is. Like tupacs music is timeless to me (as cliche as that sounds) BUT at the same time I haven't myself tossed on a tupac album for atleast the last three years. But when I go somewhere and hear a pac song come on I go nuts! Or randomly I listen to tracks like "Me against the world", "Krazy", and "Unconditional Love".
Generally I figured to me, timeless hip hop, is something with a lot of substance. Or something that has a direct and strong correlation with human emotions that we all feel from birth to death (love, hate, anger, etc)
But then I look at something like Raekwon - OB4CL or GZA's - Liquid Swords, and I dont remember either of those album ever coming out of my rotation ever since I first heard em. And neither of these albums are particularly thought provoking.
.. so I dont really know what it is, what are ur thoughts?
