Technology Xbox Price Cut!

Been holding out on picking up an Xbox 360 until the price came down a little more? Well, now may be the time to pick one up!

Microsoft has announced that it is cutting the price of the Xbox 360 games console on Friday. Here are the new prices:

* Xbox 360 Elite: Down $100 to $299.99
* Xbox 360 Pro: Down $50 to $249.99
* Xbox 360 Arcade: Unchanged at $199.99

There’s little doubt in my mind that this price cut is in response to Sony’s $100 price trim off the PlayStation 3 console earlier this month, bringing that down to $299.99.

That’s the good news. The bad news is that the price cuts only apply to the US.

I guess they want to compete with Sony lol. I might just have to buy a damn Xbox now. I wanted a PS3 Slim but Xbox is better, i hear.

the reasons why id personally opt for an Xbox 360:

-Price
-Xbox live
-The control pad
-I never liked Playstation
-Mass Effect, Mass Effect 2, Mass Effect 3 only available on Xbox 360 and PC.
-GTA IV Additional Content exclusive to Xbox 360. The Lost and The Damned has already been released and The Ballad of Gay Tony is coming out soon.

fuck anyone who mentions Halo 3 as a reason though. most over-rated video game that was ever created.

yeah I also think that Halo is the most overrated game ever but I dislike shooters like that.

PS3 slim is slower than the original PS3. Appearently they're using cheaper hardware thus the quality and reliability might dramatically go down, especially since the case is smaller providing less ventilation.

Personally I think that Xbox360 arcade is the best value in gaming but some people want that hdd already. I bought mine for 30$ and of course not from the shop. All you have to do is buy a cheap 360 hdd case (mine was originally from a faulty hdd someone sold on ebay) and put your own normal pc hdd indside (up to 250gb I believe).

^^i love first person shooters but Halo 3 is so mediocre imo. There is no comparison between it and Half Life 2 for example.

I got my Xbox 360 two years ago. I have the 20gb version. thats more than enough for me.

I've read this:

The PS3 Slim is powered by a new 45nm version of the Cell processor, which runs at the same speed as the 60nm processor in the "old" PS3 but is smaller and more energy efficient. Company representatives said that power consumption for the Slim has been cut from 280 watts to 250 watts. (We'll be verifying the Slim's power consumption with our own independent testing soon.)

Ramping down the power consumption and, more importantly, the heat the system generates has let Sony tone down the cooling fan. With the Slim, you'll still hear some fan noise if you're close to the unit, but the hum is fainter, and it shouldn't bother you during quieter scenes in movies so long as you're not sitting right next to the PS3. (Fan noise on the previous systems varied wildly; some were noticeably loud, others were all but silent.) We also noticed that after playing a game and Blu-ray Disc for more than an hour, the light breeze the fan emitted was warm but not hot (you can hold your hand up to it without fear of getting scorched).

I see that is has been tested yesterday and it's only partially true.
Seems like it's 7 seconds behind at loading Blu-ray disks and a few seconds at booting but loading games is actually okay since it skips all splash screens. However it means that something has been replaced with something worse.
