'Mania' to be Hall of an event

March 6, 2005

BY BLACKJACK BROWN

WrestleMania 21 already had a series of great matches and plenty of title defenses lined up, but the WWE added some big-time star power to the show last week.

First off, in an announcement that was long overdue, it was revealed that Hulk Hogan will be among the inductees to the WWE Hall of Fame. The addition of the Hulkster was expected, but it certainly wasn't considered a sure thing. People can make the argument that Ric Flair was the greatest champion and that names such as Steve Austin, The Rock and Bret Hart were the biggest stars, but Hogan is the man who made wrestling what it is today.

It did not take Hogan long after defeating the Iron Sheik for the WWE title at Madison Square Garden to launch "Hulkamania'' and propel wrestling to mainstream acceptance. The Hall of Fame induction ceremonies have been great for the fans, but the Hall becomes much more legitimate with Hogan.

Another 2005 inductee will be busy during WrestleMania. "Rowdy'' Roddy Piper will bring the wildly popular "Piper's Pit'' segment back to the WWE. Piper is probably the best wrestler in history on the mike, and he will need every bit of his abilities April 3 because his guest will be the returning Austin. Austin has not been known as someone who takes a lot of lip in the ring, and I can't imagine this meeting won't end in a Stone Cold Stunner to Piper.

Either way, Austin in "Piper's Pit'' might be the most anticipated part of the card.

Austin in Piper's Pit
Some kind of 6-man Ladder match devised by Chris Jericho.

With some of the biggest matches in WrestleMania history already named, Chris Jericho decided to make some waves of his own.

After defeating Maven on Monday Night RAW, Y2J provided a rather cryptic message concerning his idea for WrestleMania. According to Jericho, his idea is a chance of a lifetime, and it includes five other elite Superstars. And finally, Jericho proclaimed that it includes a large steel ladder.

What does Chris Jericho have in mind? What is the chance of a lifetime he was referring to? Who are the other five Superstars? Be sure to watch RAW each Monday night (9/8 CT) on Spike TV as this story continues to develop.

Piper was the original mic genius but I do agree that Rock has taken it to another level of showmanship. Although, keep in mind, Piper was way ahead of his time.

Seeing as Illuminattile mentioned him, I've got to say something about Jake 'The Snake' Roberts. He was good on the mic, but like JR said before, he had an unbelievable presence in the ring. I mean, this guy, IMO, had more of a presence than Hogan, Undertaker, Shawn Michaels, Rock or Austin. Pity he slipped into drugs & shit.

Jake vs Undertaker at Wresltemania 8 remains one of my favourtie matches of all time.
That Wrestlemania also saw great fights between Piper & Bret Hart, Randy Savage & Flair & also, (Psycho) Sid Justice vs Hogan.

How I yearn for the old days....

Other notable characters on the mic were Jericho, Hawk (from LOD), Hogan, Savage, Flair, Mr. Perfect & Stone Cold.

Undertaker one of the greatest characters ever. Still going strong, in the Smackdown recorded in Manchester, the place erupted when he came out.

*Hums the Shawn Michaels entrance theme*
I know that's a catchy motherfucker but ever since he left the Rockers he was a prick.

I wouldn't mind seeing him dead - seriously.

He fucked over Bret then denied it. Then said he'd prove it & gave Bret his word. Then fucked him over again!!

Vince can die too. As can Shane, Brisco, JR & Lawler (even though I'd be a bit sad to see those two go) can fucking rot as well.

And there's some special pain reserved for that little fucking weasel Earl Hebner!!!

Have him done Marcellus in Pulp Fiction style.....no, not the rape you sick motherfuckers, the pipe-hitting motherfuckers going to work with a blowtorch.

Bret Hart aka The Hitman aka The Execellence Of Execution - the best there was, the best there is & the best there ever will be.

That honour goes to the Rock, hands down.
You're probably new to wrestling. Pipper was one of the best if not the best on the mike. The Rock is good but he aint Pipper good. Check out some of his Pipper's Pit interviews. What made Pipper good was that he was not a good wrestler, he did not have the body of a wrestler, but he did have the mouth of his which made him golden.

For best announcers it has to be Gorrilla Monson and Bobby Heenan. The great heel vrs face anounce team.

"Oh, here he comes now, the May West of pro-wrestling." -- Roddy Piper on Ric Flair

The greatest quote in wrestling history
(After beating up Frankie Williams on Piper's Pit): "Just when you think you know the answers, I change the questions." -- "Rowdy" Roddy Piper
