It's official - garbage-ass Windows Mobile is dead.

Microsoft just unveiled their new smartphone OS - Windows Phone 7 Series.

and to quote Gizmodo "Microsoft have out-Appled Apple"

The UI is incredibly fresh - many have said it looks like "an iPhone from the future".

This article is worth checking out:

My initial reaction is that it's too late, and by the time this thing actually launches, it'll be left in the dust.

Having said that, the xbox live integration will win them some users, and it's never wise to be complacent when it comes to Microsoft.

Neither Apple or Microsoft can compete with the Android juggernaut which is eating up everyones market share like noone's business, but at the very least this will encourage some healthy competition.

I agree it looks nice

but

then this OS will go into multiple devices from multiple manufactures and act erratically but that doesn't matter because Windows will fail to compete with the App Store.

They are saying something about that.....the way that applications work on this thing is different to other smartphones. Tighter integration, or something?

I'm not sure how it works and they haven't really said much yet. But yeah, I agree that if they approach applications in the same way as everyone else - they won't compete with the app store, or Android Market which is rapidly catching up with the App Store also.

One of my old high school friends now works at Microsoft somewhere in Finance and she was all excited about this yesterday, posting statuses and links and bla bla. A generally excited Microsoft employee which makes sense and it's good that there's pride in your product. But I replied to her status update by saying "It's all about Android. Jump ship while you can" in a joking manner and she fucking deleted my comment. LOL

Anyway, that little story aside, I'm impressed by this. The good thing about this is that it's a win-win for consumers. The more competition, the better off we are. I don't think it's too late for them. As the article said, look at the XBOX. Was it too late to enter gaming? Fuck no.

It is funny to see the hate in yo eyes, hate in yo eyes to quote a Mack 10 song, when it comes to Apple, Casey. :D

They saw that Windows Mobile is failing so they just had to come up with something simple that would look good and fresh and wouldn't be Windows Mobile. Seriously, Windows Mobile sucked balls. I like this.

LOL SOFI, was that the Mack 10 song that sampled the Bee Gees? I had managed to completely forget about that travesty and now you remind me of it.

Microsoft definitely had to completely kill WinMo to even stand a chance.

this is great news. but it remains to see how it'll work in real life on phones used by actual customers.

lmao I just saw minimal requirements for windows phone 7. 1ghz processor and graphics acceleration = MINIMUM for "chassis 1" win phone 7.

Sync with Xbox Live? Im there.

Where can I preorder?

I suppose that depends on which hardware company is the first to ship a device to market, whether it be LG or HTC or another company.

Fuck knows, but if they wait too long they will lose the momentum, and momentum is king.

My gut tells me it's not gonna be till the end of the year, and that by then it will be too late. I mean, HTC still have Windows Mobile 6.5 handsets on their release roadmap even in July/August.
