Which version of windows 7 is the best?

If i were to download it and install it(vista blows), would it erase all my files?

Windows 7 Ultimate has the most features.

It won't delete your files unless you format your hard drive in the process.

It depends on how much RAM and what kind of processor you have as well as how big the hard drive is.

I have a 4gb ram intel core duo 500 gb computer with windows 7 ultimate and it works like a charm

I'm putting Windows 7 on my brand new 4GB RAM, 2.2GhZ Core 2 Duo laptop in a few days time, it should be smooth as fuck from what I hear.

Well, it'll work way faster than any Vista anyway so you shouldn't worry.
I have Windows 7 on my old school laptop and it works faster than XP on it.

Ultimate takes slightly more ram and more hard disk space but offers more functionality so technically it's the best since it offers the most. The question is do you need these things. For most things you won't feel a difference between Windows 7 Professional and Windows 7 Ultimate.

the question is do you need all the features Windows 7 Ultimate provides? yeah it's cool to have the best but sometimes the best is what you need. there's no point in paying extra $ for features you'll never use.

okay my pc is seriously annoying me now, i cant even boot it up.

i need to get my upgrades done, and i want to upgrade to Win7 because XP support is being phased out.

i was looking at desktop PCs without OS's and found some decent deals but doing the upgrades would still be cheaper. as for £200 i can upgrade the:

motherboard
processor
RAM (2GB)
install a secondary HDD (1.5TB)

and hopefullly upgrade to Win7

all for £200.

i really like the appearance of windows 7. i started using it the day it came out. i obtained the full version (32 and 64 bit) for free from school.

2 weeks after i installed w7, it was using up all of my system resources at the slightest movement. i reinstalled it again and its' been working well ever since.

my cpu specs: 1.86 gigahertz processor dual core 4 GB RAM 250 HD and 1 terabyte external HD.

It's disappointing if you have an integrated video card cuz windows 7 only detects 3.37 GB ram instead of the whole 4 gb. so if you're planning to get a desktop PC make sure you get a separate video card

Install the 64 bit version. The memory limitation only applies to 32bit.

actually that's not true. people with x64 are having the same problem too because of the integrated video card

the onboard video card uses up 512 megs of ram so thats where im taking a loss no matter what version of windows 7 i use

Oh, youve got a shared memory video card. Yeah. I remember back in the day I had a Pentium 166 with 16mbs of RAM, it was an IBM Aptiva. It had a 2MB video card but it was shared memory. So then some video games that needed a minium of 16MBs didnt work because I only had 14.

Now Ive got 4000MBs. LOL.

But yeah, its not a Windows problem, its the hardware.

Aside from a slight BSOD issue that I have yet to figure out, Win 7 is a beast of an OS.

Microsoft really pulled out all the stops on this one, not surprised that it defeated Snow Leopard in a comparison poll on mashable.com
