Non-Urban Music Which artists are you a REAL fan of?

I didn't know you were a Kyuss fan Dukie. Do you like QOTSA also?
Also Depeche Mode ftw. My favorite of theirs is the "Ultra" album produced by Tim Simenon of Bomb The Bass.
My manager's wife is thanked on most of the Depeche Mode albums since the mid 90's because she worked at their record label, Mute, until it closed down last year.

Actually, take Depeche off the list. Im a big fan of their music but I don't know their entire repertoire.
QOTSA, I barely listen to them. I have nothing against them either, but I just don't pay attention to them.
Chronic recommended Kyuss to me once. Then I went ahead and bought all their albums. Great stuff, great stuff. I love the mix of sounds and styles in the individual songs, on the specific albums and between the albums themselves.

The Dream - Dude had a great slept on album. Like his production and other stuff.
Mariah Carey - I grew up w/ her, prince and MJ, but my mom mainly bought her cd's. She had Prince and MJ on records so i didn't really bump them that much, but know their music.
Dr.Dre - 2 classix, know it all.

To be honest I don't think I'm a fan of any artist by its true definition. I once was a huge 2pac fan and since then I wasn't a fan of any artist so when I say that I'm a fan I think it's just that I really like him and his music. I can honestly say that I love the sound of some artists and that I love listening to certain rappers but I can't say that I'm a fan. I don't know their every song, don't collect their singles/mixtapes/t-shirts/whatever. There are certain artists I really appreciate and support and hope for new albums but I don't feel like I'm a REAL fan I once was (though I probably respect and know much more about certain artists than average so called "fan").

For me it's more that I've been through basically two wars so I know how easy it is to lose all material possessions that you have. But even living in a country like the US, where depending on where you live, tornadoes, hurricanes, and floods are frequent. Depending on where you live in a city, B&E's are frequent...it's just so easy to come home and see all your shit gone/up in flames. I think it was roaches who lost his big music collection when Katrina hit. Shit like that. Like fuck it. I like the freedom of being able to up and leave at any second and not be strongly tied to any material possessions that I'll have to leave behind.
In addition, although I'm a big fan of someone's music, I never get the desire to play the role of that "real" fan that Casey describes. Maybe I just don't like anything that much to the point that I'll want to know everything about it, collect everything regarding it, etc. I don't put people up on a pedestal like that. You might be well-respected, talented, but why the fuck should I go and purchase every tidbit about you and try to pry into every little detail in your life? We're all just humans.

I think it's natural to put people on a pedestal if they are incredibly good at what they do, not just in music, but in anything really.
Do you have a "passion" so to speak, SOFI? I'm guessing no since you said there's nothing that you like that much to want to know everything about it. When you have a real passion you do want to know everything about it I think.

Aside from my music collection, my box of mementos from my career, and every issue of "The Source" from late 2000 to late 2006, I don't really have a lot of stuff. Even with Prince, though I do collect a lot of Prince stuff, I don't collect bigger items like vinyl etc. I only have maybe 9-10 Prince vinyls, compared to about 100 CD's.
I'm really trying to scale down on the stuff I have. I'm gonna get a nice spec laptop and sell my desktop PC, sell a few keyboards, get rid of a bunch of furniture that I don't use, etc.
