what is the age when you stop calliing them kids

I had this conversation with a friend a couple of days ago and the thought popped into my head after reading the post about "stupid accidents while you were a kid." The question is, at what age do you stop calling them kids? Do you consider a kid to be someone that is 14, 16, 18, 30...when does the term go away? In my friend's eyes, he felt that once you are 18 and can go into the armed services and shit like that. I argued that instead of an age, it has more to due with your lifestyle. If you live with your parents or your parents support you (i.e. they help you out while you are in college) then you are classified as a kid. My point was, until you are paying for everything on your own and have your own job, you are really just in the same situation as you were when you were four. Granted you have matured since then, but I figure once the dependence is gone, that's where the term dies out.

I agree it has mainly to do with supporting/living with yourself...I'd also add, the term refers to anyone who sucks, because most kids are annoying or suck. So that and whenever they stop being stupid. pz

I never said that you call them directly to their face a kid. It was more intended as a classification system.

i would say between 17-19 but judging by some of the people i have encountered in college, i would have to say late 20's.

i think i didn't explain myself well enough. I'm not talking about when will parents stop calling or thinking of their children as kids. I was looking more into how people see others in the sense of, do they look at the person as a kid or do they look at them as an adult. When I hang out with some of my older friends, their friends see me as a kid in relation to their age (how assassin described it), but like what my friend said, he looks at it more of an age issue.

This has nothing to do with parent/child relationship or someone calling another person a kid. Just when you meet people, how you perceive them in your eyes
