whenever i browse the web on firefox or ie, after a while, my inet will stop working. i can still access it through the ps3 or any other device. i can't access local ip addresses either when in this state. the only thing that works is to reboot. i tried adding something to the registry manually hoping it would solve it, didn't work. i blocked the IP Helper service from running on startup, didn't help. basically, nothing i do seems to help. i upgraded my router software thinking vista and the router somehow treated package sending and receiving differently. not working. i can't get to the root of the problem. everything i've tried are tips and help i found using google. i didn't bother going past page two or three though. hoping someone knows an easy fix to this problem.

before suggesting it's my ethernet controller, it used to work perfectly fine. i purchased some new parts and installed vista, and the internet worked fine for a few weeks. only recently did i get this problem, but i haven't installed any applications that could affect the windows system in a substantial way since i first got everything up and running. i tried disabling ZoneAlarm, didn't work. NOD32 i won't turn off, but i know it's not that.

If your PC is nearly all ways on, the connection to the router can be lost, but not on the PCs end, but the router itself. You may think that the router is ok because you can still connect via PS3 etc, but they are on a different port than the PC, and its within the port where the problem lies.

Try rebooting the router and see if that helps.

This is a problem I saw a lot of as Network manager, normally common in cheap routers.

i'll have a look into the router. according to my isp i have to use this router. i know that's bs, but i don't know enough about router customization to mess around if there are some settings i need to fix manually on other routers. never mind the fact i'm a student now and can't afford a new router lol.

anyway, other computers also on my home network don't seem to have the problem. the other computer is running winxp however. on google search a lot of people seemed to have my exact problem, but that could be due to what you said about cheap routers. we'll see, i guess deep down i was looking for a magical answer like check a box somewhere and it works. i'm moving to another city in a few days so it won't matter. it just bugged me is all.

i never had any issue with my internet and router and i have vista so i don't think it's vista related. last time i had internet issues it was my router that was fucked. had to reset it and everything. you might have to do so.

the problem is that i can have several devices plugged at any time. i tried this last night. immediately after my vista computer loses it connection, i can still browse the internet fine with my playstation or other laptop before the router would have the chance to reset it's connection. so it's not like it disconnected or rebooted and was back up and running by the time i tried other devices. one or two second delay max. it may not be vista, but a mixture of how vista treats data transfer coupled with how the router treats it. maybe vista doesn't work well with my onboard ethernet controller. it's just the one machine though.

did you check if they were compatible? worst case scenario you'll have to get a new router. how long did you have yours?
