Hello

Going to buy a used car. Don't want to spend over $2500. Found quite a few cars already. Which models last a fairly long time? Which models should I stay away from?

How are the following cars?
  1. Oldsmobile
  2. Chevy
  3. Pontiac
  4. Chrysler
  5. Kia

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

For 2500 bucks, any car by any of those companies is gonna be ass.. Doubt youll get any warranty from a dealer. I'd say take the 2500 and use it on a down payment for a new/newer car.

Been there, done that. My last car was a 2005. I don't want to finance a car, right now, I just want something that I can own.

I saw an Oldsmobile Intrigue, 1999, with 85K miles, for $3400, but i'm sure they'll drop the price down since i'm paying with cash.

your question needs to be more specific. asking which make is better is like asking kelloggs or post cereal? it leaves a wide range of answers. but if you break it down to frosted flakes or grape nuts, you can get a more specific answer.

any car you buy around that price range is going to most likely be old, falling apart, and have high miles, so you will need to be expecting to put it into the shop with in the first 6 months to a year and probably a good 1000 dollars worth of repairs. i'm speaking on experience. all the cars i have ever owned have all been used the mileage no lower than 74,000.

do some research at edmunds.com for any specific cars, the make model and year, you are looking for and read the customer reviews.,

If you want something lasting, I'd take that 2500 bucks and go buy a older Honda Accord or Toyota Camry. For 2500 you might be able to get a '93-'94, but of course itll have over 100,000.. My friend had a '93 Accord with like 260,000 miles on it but it still ran like a champ when he traded it in.. Of course, it wasnt too pretty though.

Fataldawg has very good advice go find yourself a Honda or a Toyota sorry to say but domestic cars are shit. Honda and Toyota have a reputation for lasting well over 300,000 miles an still going strong, highly doubt you'll find that in GM products or Ford. Good Luck Syn

Out of those choices, and for that price, definitely go with Kia. Otherwise look for a Nissan Altima, late 90s, $2500-$3000.

After being in the auto sales business and learning about how things work, 98% of cars you buy for $2500 OTD will not only be a piece of shit, but a headache. I would suggest another alternative that would enable you to get a newer car.

Go to a car auction, preferably a gov't one, with somebody that's knowledgeable and you can get a really good car for your money.

I've found a 97 Cadillac Catera with 82K miles, fully loaded. It was going for $3000 but I talked him down to $2500. The problem is that it needs a new 02 Sensor. Is the car worth buying? What kind of damage can missing that part have on the car?

O2 sensor is fairly cheap and easy to replace. Sounds like a good deal. But I don't think I'm buy American cars anymore I'm in the market for a new used car also Syn. Domestic cars suck! Best to go with Honda or Toyota those cars are known for hitting 300k Miles an still go strong. Most domestic hit 150k an start having issues. But hey go with what you like an what you have the $$ for!

How many times do people need to say go with foreign, haha. Seriously, go with a foreign car.
