it didn't occur to me until just recently enlight of all the recent threads about quote unqoute "wack rappers"...in most peoples opinions...one of the things that makes a "wack rapper" is someone who comes up with simple and ordinary rhymes that you think that anybody with half a brain could come up with...if someone rhymed "YOU" and "TRUE" together and other shit like this...i'm pretty dam sure most of ya'll would say that person is "wack"...but what about Pac...he used simple rhymes a lot and he never got critisized and got called "wack". But Tupac had a gift...that you see very rarely in the rap game today. Not many rappers have the gift to spit simple rhymes but make them sound complex...Pac could spit a simple rhyme that other rappers would get laughed at for and make it sound so deep and meaningful...

what do ya'll think about this?
and do ya'll think any other rappers in the game have this quality?

True, cant give you an sure answer. Maybe it is a special atmosphere that pac creates with his voice and flow combined with his beats. Its like, most ppl believe in pac than in others.
Or maybe its because he raps with simple lyrcis but is talkin about serious and important things.

(But he also got complex lyrics like in blasphemy) :thumb:

Yay for alliteration! Alot of his stuff you can point out when it used to be poetry, or if he wrote it straight as a lyric.

Picture perfection pursuin paper with a passion
Visions of prisons for all the pussies that I blasted

Pussy and paper is poetry power and pistols
Plottin on murderin motherfuckers 'fore they get you
Pray to the heavens three-fifty-sevens to the sky
And I hope I'm forgiven for Thug Livin when I die

And Pac above all used words to convey a message, to paint a picture. You don't need deep wordplay when you can craft shit like this:

and though my soul was deleted, I couldn't see it
I had my mind full of demons tryin' ta break free
they planted seeds and they hatched sparking tha flame
inside my brain like a match, such a dirty game
no memories, just the misery
painting a picture of my enemies killing me in my sleep
will I survive till' tha morning ta see tha sun
please lord forgive me for my sins
cause here I come...

had a simple rhymes but like someone said his message in songs makes him the one of the bests rapper all the time, his emotions when he is rappin etc

I agree, but sticking to small words and simple rhymes helps get the messege across more easily.Imagine Canibus and Jedi Mind Trix dropping wisdom.

Complex lyrics & complex rhymes are too different things.

Complex lyrics incorporates metaphors, personficiation & double entendre.

Complex rhymes incorporates meticulous rhyme schemes with layered rhymes & the manipulation of syllables.

What you say here is right & wrong.

Tupac did change some of his poetry into lyrics but those that you have quoted - from If I Die 2Nite - were never poetry but are rather, lyrics that incorporate a poetic technique.

Actully i think tupac's actual rhymes were more complex than a lot of us think.

Take this for example from "who do u believe in"

Maybe it's just the drugs, visions of how the block was
Crack came and it was strange how it rocked us

See at first its easy to see he rhymed simple words such as "was" and "us", but he also threw in rhymes internally with "crack came" and "strange". I also think its clever as hell to use the word "rocked", simple at first but it kinda gives a double meaning when talking about crack.

We could analyze his lyrics forever, but they arent as simple as some think. As for "if i die 2nite", that song is loaded with complex stuff, i cant remember what that technique is called where you would say words that have the same beginning sound repeatedly but that is used a lot i know.

Tupac used words and rhymes in right easy form so people all over the world would understand his lyrics, not only US. Todays rappers uses words that u never have heard about here in Europe and makes it difficult to understand their music. Plus they have to much bas and shit , Eminem etc.

What I think is great with Tupacs music is that u hear every single word he sais.
The bas in his songs is perfect. His voice is clear and loud enough.

seriously...when pac wanted to do some crazy lyricism, he did it. the 2nd verse especially on if i die 2nite is just out of this world. i have never seen such masterful use of alliteration all through a rap song

Shit has crazy alliteration.

Fuck it, here's a bit,

I dispense dope sentences without a prescription
prefixes asphyxiate bitches who flips linguistics
Representin the West, relevant to relentless sentences
If renegade rebels resent this wicked syntax (then jack)
Revert to revolution Ras reverses, reverberates
Revolvin with written retaliation, rate repetitious
Reflex flex, regret niggaz regress to less than recoup
When recording, I wreck, records
Reflect stupid, it's so much more than just another rap and sample
Cause I model more styles than Naomi Campbell
See we been burning idiots with lyrical syphillis
Since E.S.T. was 'Ackniculous'
