Now as the title says hip hop has truely gone world wide and I think we should not forget that there are other places but The UK and the States. I am talking about Africa ppl! I can't rep em nor can I actually give alot information about the African hip hop scene but I googled some 4 yall and I would like to make this a thread where you can post shit about hip hop that comes from Africa so we can all learn about it and enjoy it.

Check out the media section for that malawian group. It's nice to listen to em.

''The Real Elements a Malawian group made up of 3 MCs - Linguistix, Marvel, Plan-B-and a producer - Q. In Malawi they are nationally known and have had airplay nation-wide on radio and television. Their first release as a group was a 4 song E.P entitled 'The I Came E.P' which featured the song 'I came' as it's focal point. 'I Came' was the first song Marvel and Q ever did together and was the beginning of 'The Real Elements as a group. The group then moved onto recording the album 'Afrikan Star'. Set for release in Malawi before year end 2001, it should also be available internationally via the internet.

The Elements are currently operating from the U.k where Q is studying music. However they often travel between Europe and Malawi to record and perform.''

This is prolly the easiest one to look up.

It's a shame because a while ago I had looked up some tracks myself and it was very nice to hear. That's prolly also one of the reasons why I remembered it but unfortunately I lost the tracks so I can't up em 4 yall.

So if you know ne thing about African Hip Hop post some shit because I am certainly interested!

""Mindless Music for the Masses or Real Hip-Hop? The choice is yours.""
So, look around and see how Hip-Hop manifests itself from within South Africa where Hip-Hop is a positive, true-to-life artform. Hip-Hop is not violence, misogyny and narcotic substances - if you believe that, then the media and commercial mainstream music buyers have you sadly confused. Hopefully this site will help to counter these negative images and offer something to deepen people's perceptions of what Hip-Hop is really all about.

i live here in South Africa, it is great because hip hop here is raw and you can actually go and meet the artists. you are right in saying that they don't deal with guns and violence etc. groups like H2O and Zubz are great because they talk for themselves.
The ultimate site for African hip hop is http://www.africasgateway.com

we have great stations representing for artists and a new tv channel MTV Base has just been launched here.......many of the American and UK people will be suprised to know that there are some acts here which are far better than anything they have, fact not opinion.

peace

ps: sorry haven't been here for so long, only found the link back to the forum today and damn it fells good to be back. Great to see they've launched the world wide forum

Ya know Lyrical Flame maybe you can help me with this...I downloaded some tracks a couple of months ago ( i lost em tho) and it was off sum compilation disc full of south african artists...1 of the groups that were on it was 3 ( or so )-women group I think and they rapped...Do you know what group that could be?

And I was thinking maybe you could make a lil thread about ZUbz and tell who he is and recommend some of his music instead of posting it up in different threads ya know that might be a lil bit more organized ;) You know sumthing like a zubz profile and maybe zimbabwe could do the same since both of you are fammiliar with African Hip hop..HEre i am asking you to educate the board.

And Jean grae isnt she from south africa? or at least south africa related :o

yeah that women only band would be called "Godessa", they are really tight from the cape flats, a well known area of gang violence, which in the time of Big and Pac had many gang problems you would have the Pac peps killin the Big peps just for listening to there fucking music. Godessa were lucky to make it as women, because women hardly ever get the respect they deserve in this country.
i will definetly get some stuff on Zubz, his webpage is down so i will email him and get some info.
Jean Grae, i think i heard the name but not so famous here.

Peace
