Ironically, I just had a friend over here and I called him to check out this thread because he is a Chef and went to a culinary school.
At his school, they did a survey of what topping are generally accepted by consumers on a sandwich. Around 65% of people did not like onions on their sandwhich. 5% of the people did not like tomatoes. Therefore, 95% of people did like tomatoes which leaves you in the minority. So, yes, it's right for them to assume everyone likes tomatoes
