^Lol @ south America not being very far. I live in Manitoba and you realise that you could fit the majority of europe into my one province. And i don't know if you know this, but crackers aren't very welcome in central america.

Well the f*cking ferry or train or whatever you take. Your countries are a lot closer together. I can fit the UK in one of our states. I don't take a plane if I'm going to a bordering state...that doesn't make sense.
It depends on how big the state is, and where you're going in the bordering state though.
Like, California borders Oregon, but if I'm going to LA from Portland I'm not going to drive there cos it's like 1500 km away lol. Although I have done it before, road trip stylleeeeee lol.
Ohio is pretty small though so you can probably get to like 4 or 5 different states within a couple hours. That's a cool situation to be in.

Joke aside (not really), I agree with Keco and Casey Rain. While Pittsey and Menace are correct in asserting that a small percentage of Americans have passports (relative to other countries), the numbers are increasing. But the wrong conclusion to make is that Americans are ethnocentric and don't find other countries and cultures fascinating. A significant percentage of college students in America go study abroad. Others don't have the same opportunities. It's hard to get off of the continent without paying more than $1000 for a ticket. Add to that all the reasons that Keco stated. Also, Europeans have the benefit of intra-continental budget airlines like Ryan Air and also the Eurorail system. We don't really have real budget airlines that will take us from here to Europe. Besides, it's only in the last decade when the dollar started falling dramatically that average-wage Europeans got their dick hard and started coming over here, usually visiting New York and Vegas. So, economic reasons, always.
Bottom line: Americans are just as big cultural tourists (choosing to use it in a negative connotation here) as Europeans. Few people here think that America has everything Americans want to see and experience. Smacky, for whatever odd reason, chooses to be very Pro-American in everything from sports to tourism, which is confusing, considering he's not even a citizen? Whatever, though. I think he's just rebelling against the majority European population on this board.

when i was in Florida. the guy who owned hotel we stayed in used to drive to Canada for his vacation. what a loon. i think he had a fear of flying though.

And then they advertise 99p flights, then add about 40 quid tax, at least 10 quid for a bag, and so on and so on. ryan air have been slated recently for what is literally false advertising
Although i do get what you mean. Are there no budget airlines that fly throughout north/south america? i woulda thought for a country the size of the US, there would be loads of cheap flights and airlines?
Ryanair and other low budget airlines are beneficial. if im going to spain for example. im not bothered whether im given some food that only takes up space in my seat. i just want to get there for as cheap as possible. Ryanair and the other low budget airlines gives us that opportunity. Would you rather fly Aer Lingus or BA and pay alot more like people had to do years ago. Ryanair introduced cheaper flights and ended the monopoly enjoyed by airlines such as Aer Lingus. obviously if you want to go to the US you cant fly Ryanair although there were plans to introduce trans atlantic but maybe that has been scuppered because of the current economic climate. all they have are Boeing 737s in their fleet i believe.
The Ryanair model was copied off a low budget US airline i believe.
that said, i cant stand that the Ryanair owner Michael O Leary. arrogant asshole. their advertisements are great though.
