you mean he plays eccentric characters? sure. but they are all eccentric in their own ways.

he does play the regular human being type once in a while (The Tourist (2011))

the movie got ripped to the shithouse by a Britain reviewer. called johnny depp's portrayal of the mad hatter utterly pointless or something along those lines.

on a side note, i dislike johnny depp to the point i wish he would do a heath ledger

Johnny Depp is a great actor. He doesn't always do the same roles, but he tends to work often with Burton (and why not, Burton practically made his career with Edward Scissor Hands, when no one else would give him a lead in a movie)

Reviewer/Critic, thats what they do.

I like Depp because he takes risks, theres been so many times he could have taken an easy way out and become stereotyped into a certain character role. With risk you get hits and misses, in my opinion he's had more hits.

Blow is a great movie.

I used to think that, but I changed my mind when I took other movies he has done into consideration.

Without Burton, Depp can play any other character amazingly.

With him, they seem very familiar because of some characteristics, but mainly their look. Ultimately they're their own characters though.

Tim Burton has a specific style of film-making so if you just look at Burton/Depp movies to justify an over-all opinion on Depp you will think that way, but your opinion will be wrong.
Depp emerses himself into a role, and he is part of that elite group of actors who I can watch and find myself believing he IS that character.
