Thoughts on Dante's New Info

After reading Dante's comments on the demo of the Makaveli album concerning all those harsh disses that were never released on the official album....it kind of makes me think back to how 'Pac got off track (to some extent) in the latter portion of his career, although it is also thought to be the most promising portion of his career. I think about masterpieces like "White Manz World" and i think, what if the majority of his songs on that album were that conscientious? And there was no bullshit about dissing people like Bomb First and Agaist All Odds. I only wonder, had he not been shot, songs like this would have probably never been released and there would be a lot more of the songs we all love 'Pac for. In other words, no one on this board (or at least not many) are Tupac fans because of his disses towards Nas, Mob Deep, Bad Boy, Jay Z, et cetera. We are fans because of his social consciousness and the power he had through discourse and lyrics to move people towards change.

Any other thoughts on this, please post.

One of the first Pac tracks that I heard was Hit 'Em Up, I heard it on my friends copy of HDUWI single, and that track is probably one of the main reasons I looked into the rest of Pac's music - and once I did then I found all the other, more conscious material. So I think that if it wasn't for Pac's disses, there may have been alot of people that never became Pac fans.

One of the main things that made him so interesting was the many sides he had, and he'd definatly be lacking something if he wasn't so outspoken and harsh on people.

hit em up video version originally had an extended outro (after he gives props to freddie foxxx, etc) that disses bad boy artists by name in his war voice (read: all out og). i think pac knew that there was a line he was walking as it pertains to the disses, and likewise censored himself to a degree. dissing people on record is one thing, but when you take it too far your targets almost HAVE to respond in real life to save face. i think he knew that biggie wouldn't step to the plate, but he neglected to consider the blind followers who'd do some dumb shit, especially mindless drones in cali (orlando) who have nothing to lose and everything to gain by rolling on him one way or the other.

old pac is and always will be my favorite, but as west coast rap evolved, so did pac. he still had conscious records, but they were a little more infused with the death row mentality, which in many ways watered them down.

what i think is truely sad (as you pointed out) is that a large percentage of pac fans are only "fans" because they heard hit em up, and not papaz song, brenda's, etc first... these days if 50 came at fat joe with a hit em up style song i'd completely not even give it the time of day. i guess it's like when i was a kid and 2 live crew first came out... everyone had the tape not because it was good, but because luke said some nasty shit that would piss mommy and daddy off if they caught wind. in that regard i can only hope that the people who started with hit em up are made aware of more substantial material pac recorded. (i still know people with JUST the how do u want it single with the good version of cali love and hit em up as their "2pac section" of their music collections.)
 
thanks for the info Dante, where you know it all from? ( I always wonder) You should make some kind of website (or co-work with Rukas if he is still going to put on 2Pac website) and let the world know about such cases.

See, some people (like me for example) are all about information and I see you know way more than anybody out here...
 
I was a fan of his realness which took form in both disses and social songs.....if he felt something he said it and didnt sugar coat anything and always (even if it might not have been that good) gave reason for what he did (not just because).

he did have a site www.2pacshakur.org but for some reason its shutdown not it had all the shit u ever wanted to know..
 
Good thread PaulyPac. Tupac's music is often like a double-edged sword. Some people who already oppose rap would hear Hit Em Up and it would only reinforce their idea of rap being a violent, mindless genre. Because of this, they immediately think Pac is just another uneducated, illiterate gangster. On the other hand, songs like Hit Em Up also led people to explore the rest of Pac's music. Personally, the first tracks i heard were songs with more potent lyrics. This is why we need to show people the positive side of 2Pac's songs.
 
i want 2 hear more of pacs war voice.... he sounds insane

I see a lot of ppl, not all , with only how do u want it ,cali luv ,hit em up in there 2pac section. It is a little sad they dont explore more of his music.
 
man lets just imagine what we want on the cd??hhmm i like pac cuz i mean he was so RAW u can feel the man in his music thats what made me like pac.. so i would love to see just pure RAW hardcore tracks something of the lines of All Out, Under Pressure, Troublrsome etc, it would be madness...
 
Lots of fans just like Pac when he was raw and dissin'. Personally I like his softside more. I'm certainly not a fan of Hit 'em up, I think Against all odds is a better song. Though both are lyricly far from his best songs. Songs like Krazy, only god can judge me, teardrops and closed casket, so many tears r my favorite.
I think Pac knew the commercial worth of songs like hit 'em up, toss it up etc. From AEOM wasn't a soft song released (though i realise I ain't mad at cha can be considered a soft song) as single. Though he could have release Life goes on and OGCJM. I think dissin sells, and pac knew that 2. Ain't sayin the beef wasn't real, but he knew how to use them.

i definitely feel that...
in the same breath i think a hype and raw album like killa mentioned would just be bananas. pac doesn't necessairly have to diss to be hard, as illustrated by hell 4 a hustler, hellrazor, and others in the same vein. pac had intentions of putting out a soft album one or two releases after one nation, and it contains some tracks that we all know very well, as well as many others that remain unleaked. gotta give him credit, more than being diverse, the guy had vision. here i am not knowing what i'm going to eat for dinner.
 
yeh i know what u sayin Dutchpac, it was kinda hard to believe the same man who sang hit em up, all out, agianst all odds was the same man who made songs like dear mama, life goes on, tatto tearz... i also like the softer side of pac u can hear him pouring in to the song like evry single word u know his puttin 100% effort in.. im not saying i wanna see a album where pac is cussin everyone and its just pure hate cuz that wouldnt be right, like dante mentioned pac was also amped on hell 4 a hustler and hellrazor and he didnt diss no1 just pure Rawness..
